Bearing elements made of bearing steel were subject to studies. External ring-type elements with an internal race of 20 mm diameter and 12 mm height (Fig.4) were subject to tests using the contact probe and internal volumetric ones. Results of tests are given in Table 2. [Pg.22]

The prevacuum technique, as its name implies, eliminates air by creating a vacuum. This procedure faciUtates steam penetration and permits more rapid steam penetration. Consequendy this results in shorter cycle times. Prevacuum cycles employ either a vacuum pump/steam (or air) ejector combination to reduce air residuals in the chamber or rely on the pulse-vacuum technique of alternating steam injection and evacuation until the air residuals have been removed. Pulse-vacuum techniques are generally more economical vacuum pumps or vacuum-pump—condenser combinations may be employed. The vacuum pumps used in these systems are water-seal or water-ring types, because of the problems created by mixing oil and steam. Prevacuum cycles are used for fabric loads and wrapped or unwrapped instmments (see Vacuum technology). [Pg.408]

There is some beneficiation of talc by froth flotation (qv), practiced especially on ultramafic-type deposits. In this process (Fig. 2), talc is milled to its hberation size (—100 mesh (ca 0.15 mm)) using ball mills or ring-type roUer mills and then slurried at 10—30% in water. Flotation is done in conventional multistage float cells using methyl amyl alcohol as a frother. Typically two to four stages are required to upgrade the ore from 50—70% talc to 90—98%. The product is filtered and then flash-dried and milled to a final product. [Pg.299]

It is important to note that simulated distillation does not always separate hydrocarbons in the order of their boiling point. For example, high-boihng multiple-ring-type compounds may be eluted earher than normal paraffins (used as the calibration standard) of the same boiling point. Probably the most common seal is the restrictive ring type, normally used in the form of carbon rings. This seal controls leakage better than the non-floating labyrinth type, although it wears faster. The carbon ring seal does not tolerate dirt as well as the labyrinth seal.
