Biocides. Although PVC itself and rigid PVC compounds are resistant lo attack by microorganisms, plasticized PVC, in specific applications such as flashing and sealing boots on roofs, shower curtains, and swimming pools, may need protection. Many biocides, often containing arsenic compounds, are available for a balance of stability, compatibility, weatherability, and biocidal effectiveness. [Pg.1687]

Melt Viscosity of PVC-Graft Copolymer Mixtures. Table III shows that the presence of 15 phr of a VC/PE (50-50) graft copolymer in a rigid PVC compound lowers its melt viscosity considerably. This effect is more pronounced for the graft copolymers with a low-molecular-weight PVC fraction. [Pg.157]

There are three broad classifications for rigid PVC compounds Type II, chlorinated polyvinyl chloride (CPVC), and Type I. Type II differs from Type I due to greater impact values, but lower chemical resistance. CPVC has greater high temperature resistance. These materials are considered unplasticized, because they are less flexible than the plasticized formulations. PVC has a broad range of applications from high volume construction related products to simple electric wire insulation and coatings. CAS numbers are 9002-86-2, 8063-94-3, 51248-43-2, and 93050-82-9. [Pg.359]

The conclusion of the EVC work was that ZHS had excellent fire retardant and smoke suppressant properties in a rigid PVC compound, with no detrimental effects on key physical or mechanical properties and so merited further detailed study for rigid PVC formulations. [Pg.66]

Another factor affecting resin fusion characteristics is the presence (or lack) of an antistatic surface treatment on the resin particle surface. Some resin manufacturers use calcium stearate as an antistatic agent at levels ranging from 0.1 to 0.2 percent. Calcium stearate is one of the main additives used to speed fusion in rigid PVC compounds. Therefore, the presence of calcium stearate on the resin particle surface will... [Pg.23]

Pressure Pipe Solid pressure pipe made with type I rigid PVC compounds have tightly controlled physical property requirements. Even though pipe manufacturers tend to be quite secretive about their formulations, these physical property requirements tend to yield formulations of amazing similarity. Due to burst strength requirements, it is difficult to make pipe cost effectively with resin with a lit-value below 65. Usually National Sanitation Foundation (NSF)-approved PVC resin with a lit-value of 65 or 66 predominates in these applications. [Pg.34]

When mixed esters of polyols are prepared using, in part, a dibasic acid, the product is an ester lubricant that is a low polymer. This leads to a high order of resistance to extraction, bloom, or deposition. Pentaerythritol adipate-stearate is used in clear rigid PVC compounds as an efficient multifunctional lubricant, despite its relatively high cost. The corresponding adipate-oleate, a liquid, is more generally used in plasticized compounds in conjunction with mixed metal stabilizers, particularly if the latter are relatively nonlubricating. [Pg.337]

The balance of internal versus external lubrication is particularly subject to change with changes in other ingredients in rigid PVC compounds. For example, the replacement of tin mercaptide stabilizer in pipe compounds with the same weight of antimony mercaptide shifts the overall balance towards internal lubrication. As a result, such substitution is generally accompanied by an increase in paraffin wax as external lubricant and a decrease in the level of calcium stearate used. [Pg.340]
