Response methodology

Relevant examples of the use of classification techniques range from the simple to the complex. Schaper et al. (1985) developed and used a very simple classification of response methodology to identify those airborne chemicals which alter the normal respiratory response induced by C02. At the other end of the spectrum, Kowalski and Bender (1972) developed a more mathematically based system to classify chemical data (a methodology they termed pattern recognition).

As its name makes clear, CTL is all about context. CTL can take many forms but always involves a process in which students encounter new information in contexts that are already familiar to them or in which they can readily see how the information is useful. CTL enjoys the support of research in cognitive science (as summarized in Crawford [2001] and in Harwell and Blank [2001]). Moreover, the experiences of many educators have shown that CTL produces better results than the drill-oriented, stimulus-and-response methodologies that have dominated American education for many years. 

In this subsection we describe a more specific type of application that now is possible within the framework of the response methodology, namely the computation and interpretation of heavy atoms effects on S-T absorption spectra. In ref. [150] a new interpretation for the cause of the external heavy atom effect on S-T transitions was thus proposed basing on response theory results for X + C2H4, X = F, Cl, Br, HCl, Ar as model systems. It was found that this effect should be interpreted as an increased SOC due to back-charge-transfer from the heavy atom, which contrasted the more conventional interpretations in terms of hydrocarbon charge penetration into the heavy atom or in terms of an exchange induced effect.

To know the influence of the three factors on the two responses at the first time, and then to determine the optimal experimental conditions in the domain of inter est, the surface response methodological approach is used. For this, the design realized is a Doehlen design (Table 32), where the change in the number of levels is minimized (each factor has only three levels of variation). The plan of experimentation is given in Table 33. 

The main interest of the surface response methodology is that we can know the value of each response studied, in every point of the experimental domain. If a mathematical approach is used, each response can be repre.sented by a quadratic equation of the surface response ... 

Chitosan, a polymer of biological origin has been reported to be an effective adsorbent for Cr(VI) removal from wastewater (Ramnani, 2006 Rojas, 2005 Schmuhi, 2001). Cr(VI) removal ratio was optimized by surface response methodology. Accordingly a maximum of 92.9% Cr(VI) removal was attained at pH 3 with 13 g/1 chitosan flakes from a solution initially concentrated as 30 mg/1 (Yasar Andelib Ay din and Nuran Deveci Aksoy, 2009).
