Resource efficiency strategies

The following case study covers the production of products and an approach to the resource efficiency strategy evolving in a typical construction products supply sector, in this case, the US carpet tile industry. It discusses both technical and policy approaches that can be taken to create a resource-efficient product. [Pg.319]

What and how organic farming can contribute to food security and sustainable development in tropical countries is of particular interest for research and development, for stakeholders in the whole value chain, and for national authorities, as well as for national and international cooperation agencies concerned with policy development in view of the diminishing financial resources available for agricultural research in development, it is important to invest in the most sustainable and cost-efficient strategies. The interest in secured data based... [Pg.32]

Many companies, both within the chemical industry and in other sectors, have recognized benefits from involving their suppliers and customers in various aspects of their business. The area of supply chain management (SCM) has become a critical element in the overall business strategy of improved productivity, reduced costs, and better control of the quality and potential risks associated with raw materials and intermediates. Proactive management of supplier environmental performance, as practiced by Hewlett Packard, can lead to product and process simplification, improved resource efficiency, product quality enhancement, reduced liability, and customer perception of the company as an industry leader. [Pg.177]

The question whether to use HSM/HSC conditions or HPC is a combination of performance and an economic point of view, considering cost, production rate, energy, and resources efficiency as well as profitability. The main criteria for selecting cutting speed, feed, and depth of cut as well as flushing strategies and cutting tool are the... [Pg.634]

Since we wished to optimize this series with a minimal expenditure of our synthetic resources, the sequential simplex technique (SSO) was selected (11,12). This strategy is very resource efficient, requiring only n + 1 compounds to start the optimization, where n is the number of physiochemical parameters used to describe the characteristics of a substituent. We selected pi to account for lipophilicity and field (F) and resonance (R) were used to describe the electronic effects of each substituent (14). Verloop s Sterimol parameters (H), minimum van der Waals radius (B] ) and length (L) were selected to describe the size of the substituent. Using cluster analysis, we selected a set of six substituents that cover physiochemical parameter space well (15). These are-listed in Figure 6. [Pg.463]

Finally, for situations in which it is not clear that exposure is and will continue to be below the limit values, a detailed survey with a measurement strategy is required. The methods used are based mostly on instruments for sampling the environment in order to obtain reliable measurements of workplace air concentrations. In general, the measurement strategy must consider the most efficient use of resources for the purpose of obtaining quantitative data on exposures by having a clear idea of what the data will be used for or whether it meets the specified need. For example, if the data pertain to peak exposures, these peaks have to be assessed according to the STEL requirements, if any. [Pg.370]
