RESISTOR TYPES

Now touch the probes firmly to the primary wires of the transformer, or use clip leads. It will be difficult to get accurate readings with an inexpensive meter, since the red ohms scale is highly compressed, and the red number one indicates 1,000 ohms. The small red marks are proportional, and about 200 ohms should be indicated. [Pg.27]

An ohmmeter can be used as a continuity tester, to determine whether or not wires are properly connected. More expensive meters often have a buzzer that [Pg.27]

The output of an ohmmeter does not necessarily have the same polarity as the red and black wires would usually symbolize for inputs. Looking at Fig. 2.4, it can be seen that the black wire should indeed have a positive output, relative to the other wire, when an external resistance is being measured. This can be shown experimentally by hooking up your ohmmeter to a neighboring experimenter s meter which has been set to be a voltmeter. It is not always true with other types of instruments, but it is often the case with inexpensive multimeters. [Pg.28]

By now, the reader has probably noticed that the sources of voltage (or signals of any kind) usually come in at the left of electronic circuit diagrams and go toward the right. There can be exceptions to this convention, but they are rare. [Pg.28]

The calculations in this chapter, and many more electronic calculations, can be done by computer with the program SPICE (Simulation Program with IC Emphasis), from Microsim Corp., Irvine, CA (www.microsim.com). Also, a low cost demonstration version is available from Intusoft, in San [Pg.28]

NOTE Make sure that the spark plug is not resistor type (measure resistance from tip to center electrode, should be less than a few ohms), otherwise the capacitor does not discharge fast enough through the plug. [Pg.30]

We see that all parts have a green part status except for the resistor, which has a red part status. This shows that all parts except for the resistors have consistent information in the schematic and the database. In the next section we will show how to correct this problem with the resistor. Type CTRL-F4 to close the Part Manager window. [Pg.570]

Figure 3 shows the disassembled cryostat its cover, the fittings with which it is installed in the test machine, and the specially constructed dynamic load cell. Not shown is the liquid-level indicator probe, which is of the carbon-resistor type. [Pg.134]

Device structures adopted for resistor type sensors in practice, (a) Sintered block, (b) thin alumina tube-coated layer, (c) screen printed thick film, (d) small bead inserted with coil and needle electrodes, (e) small bead inserted with a single coil (heater and electrode), (f) practical sensor element assembling sensor device, metal cap and filter. [Pg.8]

Contact potential-conscious sensor design Gas response of a resistor type sensor seems to be promoted significantly by contact potential if a properly designed composite gas sensing layer is used. [Pg.33]

The crossover frequency cOei = cr/a aotan 8 between resistor-type noise and dielectric noise is typically 0.1-10 Hz. At typical modulation frequencies of 30 Hz, the dielectric noise dominates. The figure of merit of dielectric and pyroelectric material parameters for an optimal detectivity can thus be formulated as... [Pg.2896]

Power was supplied from a dc generator located externally to the area. Temperatures were measured with a Rubicon potentiometer with a range of 0.01 to 100,000 jlv in conjunction with a Leeds and Northrup galvanometer. Pressure was controlled in the dewar with automatic pressure control valves and was measured with a 12-in. laboratory test pressure gauge. Liquid level was indicated with a resistor-type liquid level gauge. [Pg.256]

Molecular Resistor Organic molecules to achieve resistor type of behavior are as shown below in Fig. 3. [Pg.102]
