Laboratory and field studies are needed to further our understanding of the behaviour of radionuclides and other contaminants in the tailings impoundment. This understanding also needs to be extended to the complex set of interactions between the tailings, infiltrating water, liners, and underlying sediments so that the effectiveness of the rehabilitation scheme can be evaluated.

The indications for medical rehabilitation are subject to strict legal stipulations. First of all, an expertise including a detailed medical evaluation is required from a physician. In rehabilitation centres specialized in hepatology, all necessary interdisciplinary diagnostic and therapeutic measures are applied. It is important that the rehabilitee cooperates actively. 

Since 1999 specially trained dogs, so-called mold sniffer dogs, have been used for the rapid detection of hidden mold damage. They detect damage in areas not only at their level but also on indoor ceilings. Their usefulness has not been scientifically evaluated, but there are reports on their successful use in such procedures [67]. No decisions about rehabilitation should be made solely on the basis of detection by the sniffer dog [14]. Odor perceived by humans is not a quantitative measure for microbial damage because the quantity of typical odorous substances does not necessarily correlate with the biomass or the area... 

Recent trials have evaluated the effect of bilateral lung volume reduction surgery (LVRS) for management of severe COPD. Short-term trials comparing the effects of pulmonary rehabilitation plus LVRS with pulmonary rehabihtation alone reported that the combination of treatments resulted in greater improvements in lung function, gas exchange, and quahty of life at 3 months. 

The Malaysian Department of Environment recommended that the different project phases of exploration, development, operation, and rehabilitation are evaluated due to their environmental, biological, and socioeconomic impact. Once the possible environmental impacts are assessed, the project initiator must identify and indicate the possible mitigation measures to be taken with a purpose of controlling the environmental pollution. Compliance auditing is performed during the assessment to check whether the project complies with environmental protection standards. 

Jean, a 70-year-old female, was admitted to the hospital after being evaluated for several medical conditions that included a fractured left hip with extensive bruising to the area and to the left side of her body. She and her family reported to the attending physician that they were expecting a short rehabilitative stay at the hospital, and a social work consult was generated to determine if she could continue living at home after stabilization or whether a temporary rehabilitation facility would be needed.
