Requirements The requirements for a hazardous-waste landfill are detailed in RCRA and the regulations developed to implement the act. From a design standpoint, two of the most important requirements are (1) complete leachate containment, and (2) control of the surface water on and around the site. 

The following countries also have evaporative emission regulations Canada, European Economic Cormnunity (EEC), Japan, Brazil, Mexico, Australia, South Korea. Regulations in these countries have requirements that are typically less stnngent than the U.S. imperatives. Table 1 depicts the chronology of evaporative emission regulation developments in the United States.

EPA regulations developed under AEA specify that operations and closure at uranium or thorium mill tailings sites must conform to RCRA requirements on hazardous waste. These requirements acknowledge the presence of hazardous chemicals in mill tailings, especially heavy metals.

A management review will usually be conducted periodically, with one or more validation reports used as feedback on the overall validation program. Although shown as the last phase of management cycle, reviews can and should take place throughout validation. The review endeavors to draw out lessons from the validation conducted to date, to consider the impact of any regulation developments, and to report any recommendations. The overall aim is the continuous improvement of the company s validation capability.
