Recent Studies on the Structure

There are numerous publications on the chemistry of long-lived cationic complexes see, for example (7-70). Most of our recent results in this area have been published in Russian and are probably not easily accessible to most foreign researchers. It was for this reason that we enthusiastically accepted the invitation made by Prof. Ken Laali to contribute a brief review summarizing our recent studies on the structure and reactivity of long-lived cationic organic complexes. We limit this account to the data obtained after 2000 but include some earlier unpublished results that were not included in our earlier reviews (5, 77). [Pg.131]

The recent studies on the structure and properties of polypeptide liquid crystals, which are formed in solution as well as in the solid state, are reviewed in this article. Especially the cholesteric pitch and the cholesteric sense (right-handed or left-handed), which are characteristic factors of cholesteric liquid crystals, are discussed in detail in relation to the effects of temperature, concentration, and solvent. Further cholesteric liquid crystalline structure retained in cast fdms and thermotropic mesomorphic state in some copolypeptides are also discussed. [Pg.37]

Tenellin.—The recent study on the structure and biosynthesis of tenellin (50) provides a good example of the use of labelling. Firstly, n.m.r. was used in conjunction with biosynthetic labelling of tenellin to provide valuable insight... [Pg.11]

This chapter has reviewed some recent studies on the structure, function and evolution of COX, although several interesting topics have been omitted owing to limitations of space. For example, cross-talk between COX and nitric oxide pathways has been recently demonstrated [94,95]. It was recently found that tepoxalin can inhibit not only the cyclooxygenase activity, but also the peroxidase activity [96]. Thus recent progress in the field has been very rapid. As described here, there are still many problems with COX such as the functional role of the EGF-like domain, the origin of tyrosine radical and the mechanism of intracellular... [Pg.41]

This chapter collects a few recent studies on the structure and dynamics of macromolecular and supramolecular systems, largely based on the author s group in collaboration with other more synthesis-oriented colleagues. Eor additional reading we refer to a recent perspective article [27] and recent reviews [28—30]... [Pg.297]

Such considerable improvements were possible after the design of more reactive low-valent titanium species and the use of new synthetic methods and procedures these will be presented in the second part of this chapter. In comparison with its synthetic applications, the mechanism of the McMurry reaction has received much less attention, undoubtedly because chemists were firmly convinced of the involvement of pinacolate intermediates and rejected, in spite of some evidence, the alternative pathway via carbenoid species. The last part of this chapter will describe the recent studies on the structure and mode of action of low-valent titanium species, as well as some accurate analyses of the reaction products, which have allowed new insights into the mechanism, revealing its dual nature. [Pg.224]

Highly enantioselectivity assumed to originate from a mixed aggregate 171 of the trans-lithium enolate of t-butyl propionate 169 and the chiral lithium amide 170 was observed in aldol additions to various aldehydes, as exemplified in Scheme 5.55. Thus, the acylated aldols obtained with benzaldehyde formed in a diastereomeric ratio of 92 8 in favor of the anti-product, with an enantiomeric excess of 94% ee [83]. More recent studies on the structures of mixed aggregates between lithium enolates and chiral amide bases (see also Chapter 3) provided an insight in this type of enantioselective conversion. [Pg.310]
