In co-operation with LM Glasfiber, a complete section of a rotor blade was produced with a number of well defined defects in order to perform an initial sensitivity test by means of ultrasound, vibrations techniques and real-time radiography. Intracardiac echocardiography is emerging as an ideal real-time modality to guide intracardiac interventional procedures. Other techniques such as magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) and ultrasound imaging are attractive options since they permit prolonged observation of the human stomach without exposure to radiation. PEI is a well-established technique for tumor ablation (Bartolozzi and Lencioni 1996). It induces tumor necrosis as a result of cellular dehydration, protein denaturation, and chemical occlusion of tumor vessels. It is best administered by using ultrasound guidance because ultrasound allows for continuous real-time monitoring of the injection. By injecting short pulses of broad band ultrasound (0 5-15 MHz) into a bonded panel and using modern digital techniques to obtain a frequency spectrum in real time of the structural response, it is possible to observe differences between good and bad structures.
