Ready-mixed mortar

Other types of admixtures used with calcium aluminate cements include water reducers and superplasticizers (Section 11.4), which also act as retarders, and thickening agents, such as carboxymethylcellulose. Complex formulations may be used for special purposes for example, a ready-mix mortar for high-performance road repair might contain 55% Ciment Fondu and 45% sand, with glass fibre, aluminium powder, Li2C03, sodium gluconate and methyl ethyl cellulose (M93). [Pg.331]

The production of factory-prepared, dry ready-mixed mortar for masonry, rendering and plaster, has grown rapidly in recent years (e.g., [26.34-26.38, 26.54]). A major benefit of factory-mixed mortars is their high level of consistency. [Pg.277]

ASTM standards for mortar include C270 Cl 142 for ready-mixed mortar C780 for evaluation of mortars. Nine other ASTM standards specify aggregates, grouts and special tests. See also ACID RESISTANT CEMENTS. [Pg.208]

In the past up until to the 1950s mortars were exclusively used and apphed as job-site mixed mortars, where the mineral binder (mostly cement) and the aggregates (mostly silica sand) were transported separately to the job-site. The aggregates and the mineral binders were then mixed together by hand in the appropriate ratio and were gauged with water in order to obtain the fresh mortar ready to apply. [Pg.329]

Stars of the only two compositions which are well approved. Take of powder (gunpowder) four ounces, of saltpeter two ounces, of sulfur two ounces, of camphor half an ounce, of steel filings two treseaux, of white amber half an ounce, of antimony (sulfide) half an ounce, of (corrosive) sublimate half an ounce. For double the efficacy it is necessary to temper all these powders with gum agragante dissolved in brandy over hot cinders. When you see that the gum is well swollen and fully ready, to mix with the said brandy, it is necessary forthwith to mix them in a mortar with the powder, the quicker the better, and then to cut up the resulting paste into pieces. These stars are very beautiful and very flowery. Note that it is necessary to put them to dry in a pastry or baking oven after the bread has been taken off of the hearth. [Pg.55]

Uniformly ring-labeled aflatoxin (Moravek Biochemicals, Brea, CA) was added to soil to determine the rate of decomposition. The C-labeled aflatoxin B was incorporated into the soil at a concentration of 57.2 ug kg . The aflatoxin was incorporated into the soil by first adding methanol dissolved C-labeled aflatoxin to 5.0 g of soil. After drying, the soil was ground in a mortar and pestle and combined with 20.0 g of the same soil type. After mixing, the soil was then adjusted to field moisture capacity and placed on a CO2 collection apparatus. Moist C02 free air was passed over the soil. The resulting CO2 produced in the soil was collected in 0.5 N KOH. At specific intervals, 5.0 mL of the KOH was added to 10.0 mL of a scintillation cocktail (Beckman Ready-Solv MP ) for counting. Activity was counted on a Beckman LS 2800 scintillation counter with H-number correction for efficiency. [Pg.224]
