Refractory mortars

Granular materials are shipped raw or calcined and usually have been ground to a specified screen si2e or si2e distribution. The additives depend on the apphcation and service conditions. These materials are used in constmction, repair, or maintenance of furnaces and vessels. Refractory mortars are used to lay brick of the same composition. These are manufactured wet premixed or dry. [Pg.32]

Trowelable refractories are a kind of castable refractory mortar with a consistency that makes it easy to trowel into place—very useful for patching and for shaping complex surfaces. [Pg.402]

Refractory mortars are finely ground refractory materials that, when tempered with water, become trowelable for bonding layed-up refractory shapes. [Pg.402]

Cold-setting reactions of these kinds are embodied in numerous patented dental cements (Section 12.14), electrical cements, refractory mortars, moulding compositions, pipe-jointing materials and miscellaneous industrial cements. [Pg.1089]

Air-setting mortars using clay and phosphates were obtained in 1952 [21]. Mortars can be made from calcined bauxite mixed with a little clay (80%) and aqueous phosphoric acid (20%). A good refractory mortar can be obtained from an aqueous mix of 92% kaolin with 8% A1(H2P04)3. Another air-setting plastic refractory mortar can be obtained from 75% alumina, 20% clay and 5% A1(H2P04)3 [22]. [Pg.1089]

Silica Fireclay. A US term defined as A refractory mortar consisting of a finely ground mixture of quartzite, silica brick and fireclay. [Pg.287]

In Europe much more time passed until the first tendencies for starting a standardization of unshaped refractories appeared. In February 1964, the PRE Bulletin No. 65 was published containing a first definition and classification of unshaped refractories and refractory mortars on a modest scale. [Pg.290]
