The classical kinetic resolution of racemic substrate precursors allows only access to a theoretical 50% yield of the chiral ladone product, while the antipodal starting material remains unchanged in enantiomerically pure form. The regioseledivity for the enzymatic oxidation correlates to the chemical readion with preferred and exclusive migration of the more nucleophilic center (usually the higher substituted a-carbon). The majority of cydoketone converting BVMOs (in particular CHMOAdneto)... 

The reaction can be regarded as a regiospecific asymmetric synthesis of 3-amino-l-ols. Proline also catalyzes the first one-pot three-component direct catalytic enantioseledive Mannich readions with two unmodified aldehydes and anilines (Eq. 11) [39, 40],...

In order to realize an industrial process it was very important that cationic rho-dium(I)-bisphosphinites could be obtained without the use of silver salts. For this purpose neutral rhodium(I)-bisphosphinite-cydooctadiene-acetylacetonate was prepared according to Fig. 7 and transformed into a cationic species by readion with acids, particularly sulfuric add (Fig. 8, A=HS04). This could also be achieved as a one pot reaction [19]. It should be noted that in addition we improved the existing procedures for the preparation of the precursor complexes [Rh(cod)Cl]2, Rh(cod)acac [20] and [Rh(cod)2]BF4. 

One of the difficulties with add fracturing is delivering the live acid to the fracture tip without it leaking off into the formation or spending. Hydrochloric add is a strong acid, and the mass transfer is often the limiting fador in the readion with limestone (22). Consequently, the rate of spending is dependent upon the injedion rate. Furthermore, isocyanates can be converted in situ into symmetrical diphenyl ureas by readion with amines either added to the reaction mixture or produced in situ by reduction of the nitro compound [238]. 

Activated alcohols can be converted to alkyl chlorides by readion with phosgene in the presence of N,N-dimethylformamide [971]. 

Additionally, using a mixture of 3,4-dicaffeoylquinic acid and 4,5-dicaffeoylquinic acid, which is a crude fraction prepared from coffee beans, HPLC analysis showed that aU peaks of caffeoylquinic acids disappeared and that the peak of methyl caffeate occurred after a 4-h readion with chiorogenate hydrolase in [bmim][NTf2] (Kurata et al., 2011).

The system is equivalent to two competitive parallel readions with the particularity that one of them is dependent on pH. The reaction center has either to be spedfied when inputting a reaction into a database, or it has to be determined automatically. Specification on input is time-consuming but it can benefit from the insight of the human expert, particularly so if the reaction input is done by the primary investigator as is the case in an electronic notebook. Automatic determination of reaction centers is difficult, particularly so when incomplete readion equations are given where the stoichiometry of a reaction is not balanced see Section 3.1). One approach is to try first to complete the stoichiometry of a reaction equation by filling in the missing molecules such as water, N2, etc. and then to start with reaction center determination. A few systems for automatic reaction center specification are available. However, little has been published on this matter and therefore it is not discussed in any detail here.

In nature, aminotransferases participate in a number of metabolic pathways [4[. They catalyze the transfer of an amino group originating from an amino acid donor to a 2-ketoacid acceptor by a simple mechanism. First, an amino group from the donor is transferred to the cofactor pyridoxal phosphate with formation of a 2-keto add and an enzyme-bound pyridoxamine phosphate intermediate. Second, this intermediate transfers the amino group to the 2-keto add acceptor. The readion is reversible, shows ping-pong kinetics, and has been used industrially in the production ofamino acids [69]. It can be driven in one direction by the appropriate choice of conditions (e.g. substrate concentration). Some of the aminotransferases accept simple amines instead of amino acids as amine donors, and highly enantioselective cases have been reported [70]. 

Enzymes can perform a multitude of readions, though every enzyme usually only catalyzes very specifically the readion of a single substrate. They are named after the readion they catalyze, or the substrate with which they read, by adding the suffix -ase. Hence there are oxidases, redudases, dehydrogenases, and hydrolases. The enzyme that catalyzes the decomposition of urea is called urease, and so on. 

Ellis Wilson (1991, 1992) examined cement formation between a large number of metal oxides and PVPA solutions. They concluded that setting behaviour was to be explained mainly in terms of basicity and reactivity, noting that cements were formed by reactive basic or amphoteric oxides and not by inert or acidic ones (Table 8.3). Using infrared spectroscopy they found that, with one exception, cement formation was associated with salt formation the phosphonic add band at 990 cm diminished as the phosphonate band at 1060 cm" developed. The anomalous result was that the acidic boric oxide formed a cement which, however, was soluble in water. This was the result, not of an add-base readion, but of complex formation. Infrared spectroscopy showed a shift in the P=0 band from 1160 cm" to 1130 cm", indicative of an interaction of the type... 

Mannich and related readions provide one of the most fundamental and useful methods for the synthesis of p-amino carbonyl compounds, which constitute various pharmaceuticals, natural products, and versatile synthetic intermediates.1271 Conventional protocols for three-component Mannich-type readions of aldehydes, amines, and ketones in organic solvents indude some severe side reactions and have some substrate limitations, espedally for enolizable aliphatic aldehydes. The dired synthesis of P-amino ketones from aldehydes, amines, and silyl enolates under mild conditions is desirable from a synthetic point of view. Our working hypothesis was that aldehydes could read with amines in a hydro-phobic reaction fidd created in water in the presence of a catalytic amount of a metal triflate and a surfactant to produce imines, which could then read with hydrophobic silyl enolates. 

Quite recently, not only Lewis adds, but also Bronsted adds were found to be effedive catalysts for the three-component Mannich-type reactions in water with the aid of a surfadant. For example, Akiyama and co-workers1301 have reported that a combination of HBF4 and SDS is effedive for the readions of aldehydes, amines, and silyl enolates. We have found that dodecylbenzenesulfonic add (DBSA), a Bronsted add with a surfadant moiety, also catalyzes the reactions in water.1311 Furthermore, DBSA can be used for the dired Mannich-type reactions of aldehydes, amines, and ketones, without using silyl enolates as nucleophilic components (Eq. 8).1321...

The formation of the primary carbocation can be achieved by treatment of an alkene or an epoxide with a Bronsted or a Lewis add, by elimination of water from an alcohol or an alcohol from an acetal and by readion of enones and imines with Lewis acids. The two latter reactions may also be classified under anionic domino reactions depending on the following steps.
