Rabbit milk

To sum up, 2MB2 emitted in milk by female rabbits meets the five criteria proposed by Beauchamp et al. (1976) to define a pheromone in the case of mammals. As rabbit milk releases neonatal behavior after full ejection, but not when collected from the mammary tract below the nipples (from the tubes or alveolae), 2MB2 is probably produced de novo in the distal part of the mammary apparatus (Moncomble, Coureaud, Quennedey, Langlois, Perrier, Brossut and Schaal 2005). Accordingly, the active compound carried in milk was named mammary pheromone (MP). [Pg.307]

Of the mammalian enzymes, the sulphite oxidase of bovine liver has only recently been discovered to contain molybdenum (15). The better known molybdenum enzymes, xanthine oxidase from cows milk (31) and aldehyde oxidase from rabbit liver (16) are closely related to one another as they are to the xanthine dehydrogenases from chicken liver (17) and from bacteria (18). [Pg.112]

Of course, only easily available proteinaceous materials could be used in historical materials, particularly egg (whole or either yolk or white), glue (from bovine or porcine bones or skin, but also from rabbit or fish), gelatine, milk, curd, whey, and blood. In the following paragraphs the basic characteristics of the main groups of these proteins are... [Pg.166]

In addition to milk, a range of recombinant proteins have been expressed in various other targeted tissues/fluids of transgenic animals. Antibodies and other proteins have been produced in the blood of transgenic pigs and rabbits. This mode of production, however, is unlikely to be pursued industrially for a number of reasons ... [Pg.115]

From these studies it emerged that odor cues released from the female s abdomen to the skin surface or into milk are involved in pup directional behavior (Schley 1981 Hudson and Distel 1983 Keil, von Stralendorff and Hudson 1990 Coureaud et al. 2002). Recently, one of these chemosignals emitted by lactating rabbit females has been identified and characterized for its particular activity in releasing sucking-related behavior in newborn pups. [Pg.306]
