We are a long established medium/ heavy engineering company (Liveipool area) specializing in mechanical handling equipment and require to appoint a project/design engineer for our busy drawing office.

The successful accomplishment of a development project also requires cooperation between engineers and technicians in the development team and between engineers in R D, design engineering and in management. All this will require some common background, clear reporting, and much patience.

Project or design engineer usually a mechanical engineer, responsible for keeping the costs within budget. 

In other cases, where perhaps the requirements are ill defined, or there is concern over some particular aspect of the project, it may well be more appropriate to have the project designed and/or managed by independent professionals. For example, most industrial building projects are best suited to an engineer-led approach. If, however, the owner is particularly concerned about the architectural aspects of the scheme, he may prefer to make his own selection and appointment of an architect. 

Cost estimation is a specialised subject and a profession in its own right. The design engineer, however, needs to be able to make quick, rough, cost estimates to decide between alternative designs and for project evaluation. Chemical plants are built to make a profit, and an estimate of the investment required and the cost of production are needed before the profitability of a project can be assessed. 

The present shortage of gas and the projected shortage of power has caused the chemical industry to become aware of how it can conserve the power it now has. For any new plants the process will be carefully scrutinized to see that power usage is minimized. To accomplish this, the design engineer must be aware of all the places within the plant where energy is needed and of all the sources of energy available. 

In order to properly consider all aspects of laboratory design and keep each specialty in perspective a design team should be assembled. This team consists of individuals from each discipline involved in the design engineering research program safety and health and an architect/engineering (A/E) firm.
