Program diligence

Fortunately, many kinks aren t that hard to untangle. A hundred-foot extension cord that you didn t take the trouble to wind up properly is something you can straighten out with a little diligence and a few expletives. But others are more abstract. In our fledgling program, for example, one problem was the many variations in performance scores on different tests, scheduled inconsistently and after varying amounts of practice. 

While validation as a discipline is widely known across the pharmaceutical industry, there are still a significant number of instances in which preapproval inspection results or product recalls identify an insufficient validation program as the root cause of the difficulty. Continued awareness of validation requirements and a diligent application of validation principles will thus help to ensure that pharmaceutical products will be able to be developed and produced with the quality and reproducibility required from regulatory agencies across the world. 

Among the many effective mechanisms used by vendors to market their products to pharmacies are salespersons, service representatives, and account representatives. These individuals try diligently to maintain good communications with their clients. Many wholesaler representatives, for example, visit or telephone major purchasers every 2 to 4 weeks. The salesperson or representative serves as an important source of market information consequently, many pharmacy managers make it a practice to talk with salespersons and representatives who call on them. Additionally, talking with the representative keeps them aware of new programs and services offered by the vendor.

All of these elements of accountability have functioned to ensure that the program maintains diligence in continually evaluating technical opportunities, funding priorities, measures of progress, and relevance toward the ultimate objectives. 

Our patience and diligence were rewarded when, in early May, one hundred percent of our instructors submitted at least the minimum of three student portfolios. Only three out of thirty-nine instructors handed in portfolios after the deadline of those, two had notified us in advance that the portfolios would be late. The portfolio assessment team took particular pride in this response, feeling that we had managed to reassure our colleagues that this was indeed a program assessment. 

Chemical finishing is an unportant area in textile processing and requires a diligent fabric testing program to maxunize the benefits of the chemical treatments. Many chemical finishes have an optimum level of application, too much chemical can be wasteful, too little can compromise the desired fabric properties. The development of the appropriate performance test methods is just as important to the commercial success of a chemical finish as the development of the finish itself. A test method is appropriate if it provides useful, reproducible results that correlate with actual real world performance. The best test methods utilize simple, inexpensive equipment with easy to follow procedures and yield precise, accurate data.

Without diligent and sophisticated engineering research to enable simultaneous injection to be accomplished simply and with confidence, it seems most reasonable that a cyclic scheme, in which surfactant solution and C02 are injected alternately, should be used instead. Such a program can be called SAG, for surfactant alternated with gas. The SAG ratio can obviously be set to meet the specifications desired. There remains the question of the cycle time to be used. 

Yanzhou Coal, purchased 19 potash permits in Saskatchewan, Canada after a seven month due diligence process. The deal worth USD 260 million was inked in July 2011 and the potash property was transferred in September of 2011. Yanzhou Coal s team arrived in Saskatchewan in late 2011 to begin potash exploration and development of their properties. To date 2D seismic programs and nine drillholes have been completed. The estimated potash resources for only two of their 19 potash permits is 4.73 billion tonnes (Indicated plus Inferred resources) (Piche Mackintosh, 2013), which is equivalent to nine times the total domestic potash resources in China. 

Hunt et al. (1993) reach similar conclusions. In their survey, active safety leadership, safety diligence, proactive RTW program, and safety training proxy some of the same dimensions that we have included under Management Safety Culture. In their study, they also find that these are effective mechanisms through which to promote health and safety, and their empirical data suggest that there is also a relative abundance of variation in these practices across their sample of relatively large firms (Hunt et al. 1993, Table 4.2).
