The RN is a profile index intended to indicate rideability on scale similar to PSI and was developed when IRI was not well known (Sayers and Karamihas 1996). 

Following the above logic and Section 11-24, we can also appreciate that even the x-polarized mode of the profile of Fig. 13-l(b) will be leaky if the uniform profile index, n, is sufficiently greater than so that < kn. ...

In general, the first step in virtual screening is the filtering by the application of Lipinski s Rule of Five [20]. Lipinski s work was based on the results of profiling the calculated physical property data in a set of 2245 compounds chosen from the World Drug Index. Polymers, peptides, quaternary ammonium, and phosphates were removed from this data set. Statistical analysis of this data set showed that approximately 90% of the remaining compounds had ... 

Whereas the OVD, PCVD, and MCVD processes build a refractive index profile layer by layer, the VAD process uses gaseous constituents in the flame to control the shape and temperature distribution across the face of the growing soot boule. 

This technology also allows the control of refractive index profiles by doping. AH vapor-phase techniques use a vapor stream of volatile haUdes such as SiCl, GeCl, BCl, or POCl, and gases such as CI2 or O2. The reactants are oxidized and deposited onto a substrate to produce a soHd glass preform which is then drawn into a fiber. The variations of the technique differ in the way the reactants are oxidized (16). 

A.n log ue Synthesis. Two notable examples, in which analogues have greater therapeutic indexes than the parent dmgs, have been identified in Phase I trials. These are carboplatin (29) and ado2elesin (37) (35). Carboplatin s approval was based on its comparable efficacy to cis-platinum (28) and its more favorable toxicity profile, ie, reduced and delayed episodes of emesis, reduced ototoxicity, etc. On the other hand, ado2elesin, a totally synthetic analogue of natural product CC1065, has demonstrated a similar potency and antitumor activity profile as its natural prototype but is devoid of the delayed death UabiUty associated with the parent dmg in animals (36). 

Free-swelling tests are commonly used to measure a coal s caking characteristics. A sample of coal is packed in a cmcible or tube, without compaction, and heated at a fixed rate to about 800°C. Infusible coals distill without changing appearance or state of agglomeration. The fusible coals soften, fuse, and usually sweU. The profile of the resultant coke is compared to a series of reference profiles so that a swelling index can be assigned. The profiles represent indexes between 0 and 9. The best cokes come from coals having indexes between 4 and 9. 

Eor the free swelling index which is also known as the cmcible swelling number (ASTM D720), a coal sample is rapidly heated to 820°C in a covered cmcible. Then the profile of the resulting char is compared to a series of standard numbered profiles (18). Eor the Roga index weighed amounts of coal and standard anthracite are mixed and carbonized, and the product coke is tested in a Roga dmm for its resistance to abrasion (89).
