Production of data

In this Section we aim to make the CRM user aware of the uncertainty budgets that need to be considered with the use of CRMs. Certified values in CRMs are the property values (mass fraction, concentration, or amount of substance) and their uncertainty, the uncertainty being in many instances a specified confidence interval for the certified property. As we discussed before, this uncertainty value is not always a complete uncertainty budget for an analytical process from sampling to production of data. But even when disregarding the subtle differences in the certificates, the way a CRM is used has serious consequences on the uncertainty budget that has to be applied to a user s result. This is summarized in Table 7.2. These uses may affect accuracy claims as well as traceability claims. It is the user s obligation to establish com-... [Pg.247]

The guidelines also stress that the perfunctory execution of any quality system will not guarantee the production of data of adequate quality. The correct procedures for feedback, remedial action and staff motivation must also be documented and acted upon. In other words, there must be a genuine commitment to quality within a laboratory for an internal quality control programme to succeed, i.e. the IQC must be part of a complete quality management system. [Pg.89]

It is only natural that, to date, bioinformatics tools contribute most to the analysis of amino acid sequences. Only a small amount of current sequence data is subjected to direct experimentation. The majority of amino acid sequences currently accessible in public databases have been derived by in silico translations of nucleic acid sequence data, despite the fact that amino acid sequencing was introduced historically long before nucleic acid sequencing. It is hard to predict the future of the experimental generation of primary data. Certainly, sequencing of nucleic acids continues to become cheaper and faster, and novel techniques may further enhance the production of data. DNA chips are already used to detect differences between very similar sequences other methods may generate DNA data even more efficiently. [Pg.495]

The high-throughput production of data at each level of the combinatorial loop enforces an automated flow of data, which requires automated acquisition and retrieval. Since no database adapted to the specific case of heterogeneous catalysis is currently available (except those included in soft- and hardware packages provided by specialised companies, but at prices that academic groups cannot afford), the only solution was to develop an in-house database that fitted exactly the laboratory requirements. [Pg.266]

Data evaluation that may be conducted at three levels of diligence, Level 4 validation, Level 3 validation, and cursory review, is described in Chapter 5.2. The end product of data validation is the qualified data and a statement related to accuracy, precision, and representativeness of a group of samples. [Pg.285]

So, what level of data integrity is acceptable The total percentage of errors we found in our study was 5%. Is this satisfactory Is this the best we can hope for Hopefully not, especially as more people become dependent on databases and the rate of production of data becomes ever faster. Clearly, there is a need for a system that will better validate data being entered in the most used CAS databases. It is desirable that the quality of the databases increases at the same time as they are mushrooming in size. [Pg.409]

Hence, the production of data focuses on (1) measurement, 2) accuracy,... [Pg.15]

The potential for the presence in mineral oil of trace amounts of carcinogenic polynuclear aromatic hydrocarbons cannot be overestimated. Thus compositional tests focus on the production of data relating to the presence of aromatic and polynuclear aromatic constituents in mineral oil. [Pg.257]

The difficulty of calometric research is not the production of data but their processing. With modern microcalorimeters, any beginning graduate with one day of training can effortlessly shake down data like ripe pears from a tree (provided there s a continuous supply of protein). But the task of distilling the spiritual essence from these pears can lead to thermodramatic bouts of despair. [Pg.51]

The second type of node in HiFl expresses parallelism and is called a structure node. It is a network of nodes, of either type, in which ports of nodes are connected by edges. The nodes in such a network are concurrent processes that are only aware of their local state and communicate asynchronously with each other by edges. The communication between the AST nodes of such a network is according the model of communicating sequential processes (CSP) [15]. In the context of CSP, communication is seen as a shared event between two subprocesses. This means that the production of data in one AST process is synchronized with the consumption of data in another AST. [Pg.77]

In view of the intensive CPU power required, the NA36 analysis program is installed and running on a number of computers at collaborating institutions for the production of Data Summary Tapes (DSTs). [Pg.39]
