Product failure continued modes

At about the same time, the first information was received about product failure after continuous and exclusive use. The investigation of the pathogen populations of such fields yielded highly resistant strains (28, 29, 40), whereas so far no field resistance has been reported for cymoxanil or fosetyl. Thus, in contrast to the favorable results of a broad range of model studies, resistance had appeared very fast under field conditions. The lesson to be learned from this experience is that results of model studies have to be used with caution. Model studies must include the use of chemical mutagens and highly active, systemic fungicides should be used as if a risk of resistance exists until their mode of action is known. [Pg.102]

The number and severity of failures experienced by the equipment under study must be related to the operations of the facility. It would be inappropriate to assign the same operating histories to a continuously operating system and a system that operates intermittently. The number of hours in different operating modes (for example, 100% production versus shutdown) affect failure rate calculation and service description for taxonomy definition. [Pg.215]

Plastics. Part of the trend to substitute plastic and composite substrates for metals can be attributed to a desire to avoid the process of metallic corrosion and subsequent failure. Relatively little attention has been called to the possible failure modes of plastics under environments considered corrosive to metals. More extensive work should be conducted on the durability and life expectancy of plastic and composite materials under end-use environments. A further consideration is the potential for polymer degradation by the products of metal corrosion in hybrid structures comprising metal and polymer components. Since it is expected that coatings will continue to be used to protect plastic and composite substrates, ancillary programs need to be conducted on the mechanisms by which coatings can protect such substrates. [Pg.14]

Along with concerns of lost production during cloudy periods, the amount of downtime associated with maintenance will also affect the overall economics. Ideally, the photobioreactor would operate continuously. If operated in batch mode, there would be a period of limited H2 production while the cell density increased at the start of a new batch. If the system needs to be emptied for maintenance purposes, or if the cell culture is lost due to equipment failure or contamination, lost production will significantly affect the economics. The length of time required to build up cell mass in a wastewater treatment plant during start-up can be weeks, for example. [Pg.138]

Phase II focuses upon process development to result in a pilot production line capable of producing 300 bipolar plates per hour. Our goal is a complete functional pilot line, including all relevant quality assurance, failure mode and effects analysis, and statistical manufacturing characterization processes. This will be completed by transferring the most promising mass-production technique to laiger-scale and continuous equipment operation in a dedicated production line. [Pg.459]

In the case of continuously operated single-purpose plants the set of input and output chemicals is fixed (i.e. there is only one recipe used). However, the throughput of the plant can vary in most cases. I.e. there is a finite set of production modes each one associated to specific flow levels of all chemicals. As such plants are typically designed for maximal efficiency, the production mode associated with the maximum throughput is the intended state of production. A change to another mode is often forced by disturbances such as technical failures. ... [Pg.58]

The limitation of that process is the non-continuity of production which adds processing costs. A method of creating biaxial orientation of PVC at the extruder die exit has been achieved by Wavin and a product range has been introduced based on this technology. In addition to superior strength in the axial and hoop directions the pipe has tougher impact character and resists cracking by a laminar failure mode [18]. Biaxial oriented PVC pipe... [Pg.62]

A conprehensive product release process ensures that products are very mamre when released. Parallel to the comprehensive quality management process the safety process starts with general safety requirements which are checked for applicability and allocated to the project respectively. It continues with several tasks like performance of an Functional Hazard Assessment, production of an hardware RAM Modelling and Prediction Report and a Failure Modes, Effects and Criticality Analysis for a typical configuration and the use of the previously mentioned hazard checklist. Finally all issues of the product release checklist are to be fulfilled to get the official release. [Pg.87]

Figure 6 reveals absorption bands in selected regions of the spectrum for several concentration levels of isopropanol vapour. Each curve. A, B, or C, represents a spectral scan at steady-state reaction conditions with all reaction parameters except feed composition of isopropanol being kept constant. If different curves (A, B, and C) result, the adsorbed species associated with the spectra are considered to be germane to the reaction mechanism. In the event that the spectral bands do not change the adsorbed species are considered to be spurious. Subsequently, the reactor may be operated in a batch mode and the questionable band monitored continuously. The failure of this band to change with the extent of reaction would provide extra support to the view that the band is associated with a by product species not involved in the dehydration mechanism. [Pg.10]

However, it has to be conceded that after battery life cycle tests at such temperatures polyethylene separators also reach their limits (although this fact does not yet reflect in failure-mode studies [49]) even in locations with extreme ambient temperatures. The tendency toward using ever-thinner backwebs cannot be continued, however, without seeking protective measures. Suitable provisions have to be made, especially with respect to the separator s oxidative stabihty at elevated temperature. The leading producers of polyethylene separators have recently presented solutions [41, 47] which, even at 150 (xm backweb, provide for oxidative stability and puncture strength in excess of that for the standard product at 250 (xm backweb [41]. [Pg.316]
