At contact fatigue tests of different steel and cast iron types was used the acoustic emission technique. Processed records from the AE analyser show importance of acoustic response of tested surface continuous sensing. The technique presented above has been extensively evaluated experimentally using ultrasonic data acquired from a test block made of cast stainless steel with cotirse material structure. The efficiency of gas turbines is limited by the maximum allowable turbine inlet temperature (TIT). The TIT may be increased by cooling of the blades and vanes of the high pressure turbine. Cooling channels can be casted into the components or may be drilled afterwards. Non-conventional processes like EDM, ECD or Laser are used for drilling. Radiographic examination of the drilled components is part of the inspection procedure. Traditional X-Ray film technique has been used. Melt Extrusion. By far the most important method for producing film and sheeting materials reties on one or another of the various melt extmsion techniques (5). The main variations of melt extmsion are the slot (or flat) die-cast film process, the blown films process, and the flat die sheeting-stack process. Large and small shapes may be sUp cast from both plastic and nonplastic mixes by the usual techniques. Precise shapes, such as glass feeder parts, are made in this way as well as large flux blocks. The process requkes the formulation of a sUp of suitably stable character to be poured into a plaster mold to be dewatered. Films or membranes of silkworm silk have been produced by air-drying aqueous solutions prepared from the concentrated salts, followed by dialysis (11,28). The films, which are water soluble, generally contain silk in the silk I conformation with a significant content of random coil. Many different treatments have been used to modify these films to decrease their water solubiUty by converting silk I to silk II in a process found usehil for enzyme entrapment (28). Silk membranes have also been cast from fibroin solutions and characterized for permeation properties. Oxygen and water vapor transmission rates were dependent on the exposure conditions to methanol to faciUtate the conversion to silk II (29). Thin monolayer films have been formed from solubilized silkworm silk using Langmuir techniques to faciUtate stmctural characterization of the protein (30). ResolubiLized silkworm cocoon silk has been spun into fibers (31), as have recombinant silkworm silks (32). [Pg.78]
