Roller printing

Epichlorhydrin rubbers, whilst being speciality materials, have a useful combination of properties which leads to their use in many applications such as gaskets, oil-field components, fuel pump diaphragms, oil seals, fuel and hydraulic hose and printing rollers. 

The ductility of GRT-polyethylene blends drastically decreases at ground rubber concentration in excess of 5%. The inclusion of hnely ground nitrile rubber from waste printing rollers into polyvinyl chloride (PVC) caused an increase in the impact properties of the thermoplastic matrix [76]. Addition of rubber powder that is physically modihed by ultrasonic treatment leads to PP-waste ethylene-propylene-diene monomer (EPDM) powder blends with improved morphology and mechanical properties [77]. 

Rubber Articles. The solid polysulfide mbber products, Thiokol FA and Thiokol ST, are used in the manufacture of printing rollers, printing blankets, gas meter diaphragms, O-rings, and specialty molded items. 

Rollers of all shapes and sizes canbe made from polyurethanes. They vary from very soft printing rollers to hard rollers used in the steel industry. The casting and trimming of these rollers are very suited to polyurethane manufacturing.

Polyurethane-based plasticizers can be obtained as a product of hydrolysis of poly-methane scrap as described elsewhere for material from printing rollers.These plasticizers were used to modify acrylonitrile-butadiene rubber.In still another development, diurethane was used in polyurethane elastomers. " Addition of diurethane improved potlife, and mechanical properties. The plasticizer performed better than DOP and it was substantially less migrating than DOP. " ... 

Letterpress and flexographic systems can be used with either solvent based or aqueous based ink systems. In either case, current practice consists of mixing a solvent or water in the presence of a binder resin such as, for example, nitrocellulose, maleic anhydride, an acrylic copolymer, or various starch derivatives. The pigment is applied over the paper by the printing roller and the binder serves to hold the pigment particles in place.

Print out of position Print is out of fit, caused by print rollers not being synchronised properly results in various colours of the design not printed in proper position. 

Double-sided tapes are used further to fix the printplates onto the printing rollers. The adhesive has to ensure that the tape is mounted easily and the plate stays down during the printing process. After finishing the plate must be easily demountable without residues.
