Primary physician organization

Various approaches to self-regulation have heen taken hy different physicians organizations. However, a review of these approaches reveals general themes. In most cases, the primary justification for having a direct relationship between the pharmaceutical industry and individual physicians seems to he based on the premise that an advancement of patient healthcare will occur through increased education and research. This assumes that the information provided to the physician is impartial and also disregards the capacity of physicians to keep themselves up to date about advances in drug therapy by way of medical and other academic journals.

While nicotine is the primary active pharmacological agent, tobacco has been shown to be a particularly effective vehicle for delivery of nicotine (US Food and Drug Administration 1995 Hurt and Robertson 1998 Slade et al. 1995 World Health Organization 2001). In fact, published research has determined that tobacco-delivered nicotine is not only more toxic, but more addictive than nicotine in a pure form (e.g., nicotine replacement therapy) (Henningfleld et al. 2000 Royal College of Physicians 2000). An internist is a specialist physician who provides health care to adults. Some internists provide a wide range of primary care, and others limit their practice to metabolic disorders and conditions of organs between the neck and the navel. The internal medicine residency is 3 years long and does not require training in psychiatry or behavioral health per se however, many internal medicine residents seek out such training by elective experiences and additional study. Many internists feel comfortable treating their patients who suffer from mild to moderate depression, but most will refer patients with more serious mental health care needs. 

In professional bureaucracies, fhe patient is the central focus. All members of the organization, or team, have a primary goal in mind — for health care professionals this is improvement in the health and well-being of the patient. As such, health care professionals and not the managers develop the standards by which the patient is cared for. However, one of the drawbacks to this model is the potential for conflict among the professionals themselves, because many of fhe professionals will exercise expert or charismatic power and (most likely) the physician has primary legitimate power. 

Managed care is an umbrella term for HMOs and all health plans that provide health care in return for preset monthly payments and coordinate care in a defined network of primary care physicians and hospitals. A network includes physicians, clinics, health centers, medical group practices, hospitals, and other providers that a health plan selects and contracts with to care for its members. The Foundation is constituted by patrons that can be individuals or institutions. Most individuals are pharmacists, but there are also some physicians. Among the institutions that are patrons of the Foundation are medical organizations such as the Academy of Medical Sciences of Catalonia and Balearic Islands (ACMCB) Spanish primary healthcare net (REAP) Group CESCA, a scientific organization of primary care and the Gerontology International Eoundation (FGI). The support of these medical societies is essential for the credibility and progress of pharmaceutical care practice.
