Total pressures

It is important to bear in mind that the pressure, total concentration,... [Pg.21]

Air flow/air permeability Measure of the amount of air that flows through a filter - a variable of the degree of contamination, differential pressure, total porosity, and filter area. Expressed in either cubic feet/minute/square foot or liters/minute/square centimeter at a given pressure. [Pg.602]

Pressure, total The algebraic sum of the velocity pressure and static pressure. [Pg.1469]

To preclude thermal degradation of the amine solution, the reboiler pressure must be limited to 10 mm Hg absolute pressure. Total allowable pressure drop is 3 mm Hg. [Pg.326]

The boiler-water standards for shell boilers, as given in BS2486 1978 for 2, 20 and 40 bar, respectively, indicate that some parameters are fairly insensitive to pressure, whilst others are not. Thus, sodium phosphate should fall within the range 50 to lOOmg/kg and sodium sulphite between 30 and 70 mg/kg for each of these pressures. Total alkalinity should have a maximum value of 1 200 mg/kg at 2 bar and 700 mg/kg at both 20 and 40 bar, with the corresponding caustic alkalinity at 350 300 and 200 mg/kg. Silica should be less than 40% of the caustic alkalinity in each case. Total hardness should be undetectable in all cases. Dissolved solids maxima are given as 3 500, 3 000 and 2000 mg/kg, again at 2, 20 and 40 bar. [Pg.851]

The reduction procedure described above was carried out in a static system in order to facilitate determination of the extent of reduction in situ. The reduction was monitored gravimetrically using a microbalance (Cl Electronics MK II) and volumetrically by measuring the decrease in hydrogen pressure. Total surface areas were determined by the BET method using nitrogen at 77 K. [Pg.259]

However, in the same temperature range and O2 partial pressure total oxidation of acrolein and propene largely predominates. This can be taken as a further support that on transition metal oxide catalysts the same oxygen species (lattice oxygen) are involved in both partial and total oxidation. [Pg.486]

Under fuel cell operation, a finite proton current density, 0, and the associated electro-osmotic drag effect will further affect the distribution and fluxes of water in the PEM. After relaxation to steady-state operation, mechanical equilibrium prevails locally to fix the water distribution, while chemical equilibrium is rescinded by the finite flux of water across the membrane surfaces. External conditions defined by temperature, vapor pressures, total gas pressures, and proton current density are sufficient to determine the stationary distribution and the flux of water. [Pg.373]

This is a separation process for removal of macromolecules of suspended matter from the waste by filtration through a semipermeable membrane under pressure. Total solids removal of 95% and above can be achieved. [Pg.614]

EQUILIBRIUM SORPTION VALUES. The equilibrium benzene sorption values for the extracts at the various pressures are presented in Table II. At the lower pressure, total sorption of benzene decreases with increasing size of the added alkyl group. At the higher pressure, the order is reversed. [Pg.143]

Total temperature is the temperature that would occur when the fluid is brought to rest in a reversible adiabatic manner. Just hke its counterpart total pressure, total and stagnation temperatures are used interchangeably by many test engineers. [Pg.7]

Freeze-Dried Samples. Solid Materials and Tissues. These are first cut into approximately 1-inch cubes, frozen on a Teflon cookie sheet in a freezer, and placed in 1200-ml. freeze-dry flasks to capacity. The flasks are attached to the freeze-dried (lyophilizer) manifold, the valves are opened to vacuum, and the flasks are evacuated. The water from the tissues is trapped on a condenser. The dry tissues (drying time about 2-3 days) are removed from the lyophilizer and compressed into thin-walled aluminum cans with a Carver Laboratory press fitted with a special die, at about 24,000 lb. pressure (total). From 150-250 grams of the dry material, representing 500-1000 grams of fresh tissue, can be packed into a single can. The cans are sealed with a hand sealer and set aside for counting. Samples can be removed from the cans at a later date for chemical analysis or beta-emitter analyses. [Pg.232]

Compute the fall-off curve (log kuni versus log [M]) using the Lindemann theory. Choose the range of pressures (total concentrations [M]) to illustrate the very low pressure and very high pressure extremes of the kinetics expected by the theory. [Pg.440]

The representation for a total flowsheet is handled similarly by AIDES and BALTAZAR. Their view is to transform streams defined by temperature, pressure, total flow, state, chemical species and their mole fractions by applying a sequence of tasks such as temperature changing (heaters, coolers), pressure changing (valves, pumps, compressors), composition and flow changing (separators, mixters, splitters) and kind of species (reactors). [Pg.75]

If two vapor pressures are indicated for a single composition, the structures must be different. Any total composition is made up of parent structure plus defects. If the lines cross, the total compositions and cadmium vapor pressures have become equal, but the cerium vapor pressures, total free energies, and structures in the two microphases are different. [Pg.168]
