The take-home lesson is that the vast majority of high-pressure studies are on solids or other rigid media and are not done under hydrostatic conditions. The stresses and stress-related properties may vary throughout the sample. Pressure-induced phase transitions in the titanium dioxide system provide an understanding of crystal structure and mineral stability in planets interior and thus are of major geophysical interest. In order to obtain reasonable concentrations of CHj- radicals in the low pressure studies, reactions were carried out at temperatures > 700 C whereas, the conventional catalytic studies of Vannice and co-workers have been carried out at temperatures 700 °C. Therefore, for comparison with our low pressure results, the effect of temperature on the rate of Nj formation at a total pressure of 760 Torr has been investigated up to 875 °C for three gas compositions (i) 1 % NO, (ii) 1 % NO + 0.25 % CH4 and (iii) 1 % NO + 0.25% CH4 -f- 0.5% Oj. The results are summarized in Figure 7. At 700 °C, the trends with respect to the effect of gas composition are qualitatively the same as those reported by Vannice i.e., the addition of CH enhanced the rate of Nj formation, and the addition of O2 enhanced the rate even more. At 700 C the effect of adding CH4 was to increase the rate two-fold, while the effect of adding CH4 O2 was to increase the rate five-fold. [Pg.717]

It is relevant to the low pressure studies, particularly those of Figure 5, that at 735°C, CH4 + O2 had a positive effect on the rate of Nj formation and on the rate of CHj- radical production, relative to the case when only CH4 + NO were the reagents. Although tacrolimus therapy is associated with increasing blood pressure, studies have found that tacrolimus has less dramatic effects on GFR and RBF than cyclosporine. In some clinical trials, tacrolimus caused less severe HTN and required significantly fewer antihypertensive medications at both 24 and 60 months after transplantation than cyclosporine.61-63 Thus conversion from cyclosporine-based immunosuppression to tacrolimus-based immunosuppression may be one way to minimize blood pressure increases in transplant recipients. Conversion to sirolimus also may be an alternative to the calcineurin inhibitors in patients with difficult-to-treat HTN because sirolimus therapy is less associated with increased blood pressure. Additionally, withdrawal or tapering of steroid therapy may be an effective strategy for lowering blood pressure. [Pg.848]
