Typical results from high-pressure NMR studies [Pg.247]

Analysis of exchange-broadened NMR spectra (that is, the simulation of temperature-dependent spectra as a function of the exchange rate) has become the method of choice for the determination of the free activation enthalpy for intramolecular conformational equilibria and for intermolecular exchange processes. Studying, in addition, the pressure dependence of the [Pg.247]

Most scientists involved in high-pressure kinetics believe that activation volumes can be determined more accurately, and that they are easier to interpret, than activation entropies. Our group has studied, with the strengthened glass cell, a fairly large series of amides and A, 7V-disubstituted amides by this technique. The results are described in more detail in a recent review. Only one example will be given here, an example in which two independent conformational equilibria are observed in the spectra. [Pg.248]

The rotation around the amide C—N partial double bond this process broadens all six groups of protons. [Pg.248]
