Block Explosives. Certain expls such as TNT, Tetrytol, RDX comps, NC NS compns, when in the form of cast or pressed blocks, are called block expls. These blocks are usually used for demolition purposes... [Pg.216]

Note Most TNT blocks arc made of pressed explosive, which can be reliably detonated by a commercial number 8 blasting cap. Cast TNT has a much higher density than the pressed block and is therefore more powerful but also harder to detonate. Cast TNT requires the equivalent of a military J-2 blasting cap or a booster. Cast Pentolite is sensitive to a number 8 blasting cap. [Pg.111]

The ceramic based on lead zirconate (PZ) has intermediate figure of merit values. Its final form as a thin plate is obtained by sawing up a hot-pressed block and lapping and polishing to the required dimensions. Similar methods must be applied to single crystals and so the costs of manufacture are not very different. [Pg.421]

The mannite should dissolve quickly as it is added to the nitric and mixed in. To ensure rapid dissolving and quick reaction, the mannitol should be finely powdered before it is used. Often-times, mannite is sold in head shops in quarter-ounce pressed blocks. These blocks will have to be mashed with a fork to break them up. [Pg.78]

Usually, vibro-pressed blocks have an advantage in porosity in comparison with extruded blocks the difference might be up to 5—7 %. Usually, the vacuuming decreases the porosity by up to 2-3 %. [Pg.104]

Frozen fish fingers and similar products are made from a mixture of different fish that arrive at the processing plant as frozen blocks of the average size 62.7 x 254 x 482 mm (thick x width x length). The frozen blocks are minced and the still frozen minced fish blocks are mixed and pressed into the desired shape, covered with batter and bread crumbs, baked on the outside (still with a frozen core), packed and stored in a deep freezer. [Pg.587]

Within the preset time limit, the operator can at any time press the reject button, which will close the on/off shutter, open the exit panel and move the block on to an output conveyor At the same time the entrance panel will open to admit the next block awaiting inspection. [Pg.592]

In a typical friction measurement, a slider is pressed against a stationary block, and the force required to move it is measured. This force generally comprises two terms the first is the force F required to shear the junctions at the points of actual contact given by... [Pg.434]

Unconstrained optimization methods [W. II. Press, et. ah, Numerical Recipes The An of Scieniific Compulime.. Cambridge University Press, 1 9H6. Chapter 101 can use values of only the objective function, or of first derivatives of the objective function. second derivatives of the objective function, etc. llyperChem uses first derivative information and, in the Block Diagonal Newton-Raphson case, second derivatives for one atom at a time. TlyperChem does not use optimizers that compute the full set of second derivatives (th e Hessian ) because it is im practical to store the Hessian for mac-romoleciiles with thousands of atoms. A future release may make explicit-Hessian meth oils available for smaller molecules but at this release only methods that store the first derivative information, or the second derivatives of a single atom, are used. [Pg.303]

Laminated Strand Products. The most recent developments in the family of wood-based composites are a group of laminated strand products, made with strands oriented in the long direction of the product and marketed as stmctural composite lumber. One product is made with long, narrow strips of softwood veneer. The strips or strands are about 2.5 x 13 x 600 mm (0.1 x 0.5 x 24 in.), coated with a PRE adhesive, and pressed under heat and pressure into large blocks. After the resin is cured the blocks are resawn and planed into lumber dimension stock. [Pg.396]

The dark blue solution containing 5—10% of cellulose with a DP of 1000—2000 is filtered through a series of plate-and-frame filter presses using fine mesh metal screens to remove any particles that might block the spinneret holes. It is then deaerated under vacuum and stored ready for spinning. Unlike viscose dope, the cuprammonium cellulose [9050-09-3] solution is relatively stable. [Pg.351]

Screw presses have been used extensively in North America, but are not popular in Europe. The mash is added at the top of a vertical rotating screw. As the mash moves down it is compressed in the taper and juice flows out through slatted conical walls. Compression of the pomace blocks channels for juice flow and iuhibits juice extraction. Extensive use of press aids is necessary for efficient operation. [Pg.572]

Quick Opening Devices. Breech block, tapered or interrupted thread, or pinned closures are often used when an end cover has to be removed quickly, as with some isostatic presses (126,136), or to enable the end cover to be removed easily after the vessel has been heated to high temperatures. [Pg.94]

Porous P/M products can be sinter bonded to soHd metals. They can also be welded, brazed, or soldered. Filling the voids with flux or molten metal has to be avoided. P/M porous products can be machined, but blocking of the porous passages has to be avoided. Press fitting and epoxy bonding are commonly used. [Pg.189]

Mica splittings are processed from lower quaUty blocks and from sheets too thin for blocks and unsatisfactory for producing film. The splittings are packed for sale in three ways book form, which are laminae spHt to the desired thickness from the same book of mica, then dusted with mica dust, and restacked in book form pan packed, in which splitting layers are placed evenly in a pan, and each layer separated by a thin sheet of paper then pressed together and loose packed, in which splittings are si2ed with screens then padded loosely in a wooden box for shipment. [Pg.289]

Catalysts. The alkanolamines continue to find use as blocked catalysts for textile resins, coatings resins, adhesives, etc. Of particular utifity in curing durable-press textiles is AMP-HCl. Other salts, such as those of the benzoin tosylate or A-toluenesulfonic acid, find utifity in melamine- or urea-based coatings (18) (see Amino resins and plastics). [Pg.19]

To speed up the molding process, the required amount of molding powder or granules is often pressed iato a block and prewarmed before placing it ia the mold. Rapid and uniform heating is accompHshed ia a high frequency preheater essentially an iadustrial microwave oven. The prewarmed block is then transferred to the hot mold, pressed iato shape, and cured. [Pg.327]
