Head shops

In 1988, the U.S. Consumer Products Safety Commission banned the sale of butyl nitrite. But manufacturers kept one step ahead of federal regulatory agencies. Each time a specific formula was banned, the manufacturers would adjust by altering the chemical composition slightly. As of 2002, the newest popper was cyclohexyl nitrite, commonly sold in drug paraphernalia or head shops and adult bookstores as a head cleaner for VCRs. Cyclohexyl is chemically similar to amyl nitrite and butyl nitrite and produces the same effect when inhaled. [Pg.44]

Amyl nitrite s place on the streets has largely been taken by butyl nitrite, a similar chemical with milder effects. These products, sold as room odorizers under such brand names as Locker Room and Rush, are often available at head shops, concerts, raves, and dance clubs. [Pg.256]

Since the original publication of this book, there has been a virtual mushroom revolution. Head shops and mail order houses now sell complete kits for home cultivation of Psilocybe cubensis (spores included). The flagrant ignorance of the law-makers is reflected in the fact that in Title 21 the alkaloid psilocin is misspelled as psilocyn. This small error is a product of the same mentality that classified cocaine as a narcotic in the 1922 Amendment to the Narcotic Drugs Import and Export Act and deliberately retains the error to this day. [Pg.2]

As both legal and illegal sources of amphetamines have dried up, a flood of bogus products has appeared. Called look-alikes, they are tablets and capsules made to look like pharmaceutical amphetamines but contain no controlled substances. Some arc legally manufactured for over-the-counter sale in drugstores others appear in head shops or are sold by mail order or on the street. [Pg.48]

Look-alike drugs Tablets and capsules made to resemble pharmaceutical stimulants and depTessants. such as amphetamines and Quaalude sold on the black market or in head shops. [Pg.201]

Head shops Stores that sell drug-related products, such as smoking devices, drug literature, and other materials. [Pg.253]

Drug paraphernalia stores, better known as "head shops," have long been popular with marijuana users. This shop owner is standing amid a wide selection of pipes. [Pg.284]

I was coming back from a vacation north. Sixty miles from home. A friend was driving her truck by a head shop. [Pg.9]

Bonnie pull over, I have to check out this head shop. ... [Pg.9]

The truck stalled and I jumped out. Opening the door of the head shop, I smelled patchouli, working behind the counter is my dear friend. Jasmine. [Pg.9]

Herbal substitutes for dru [s of abuse A variety of herbal mixtures are offered for sale in magazines, on the internet and in so-called smart , eco or head shops. Many are marketed as herbal Ecstasy and the plants included in the formulations include Yohimbe bark, Kava-Kava (Piper methysticum),Y-3 e.emi, Hops, Jaborandi and Alisma. One product contains Kava-Kava, Guarana, Uva Ursi and Cascara bark. Many of the products sold as herbal Ecstasy contain either Ephedra sinica (Ma huang) or the Indian plant Sida cordifolia which both contain the alkaloid ephedrine (see R03c, Chapter VI). Other alkaloids may also occur, such as pseudoephedrine, norephedrine and norpseudoephedrine. The side-effects of ephedrine include tachycardia, anxiety, insomnia and arrythmias and a hypotensive crisis may develop if monamine oxidase inhibitors are also taken. Many adverse reactions and more than 20 deaths have been attributed to ephedrine and Ephedra consumption. Research conducted in the US shows that the daily intake of some Ephedra products would give ephedrine levels well above the recommended therapeutic doses. [Pg.150]

The production of nitromannitol is fairly easy because the starting material for its manufacture, mannitol, is fairly easily available at moderate prices from headshops. It may be labelled as baby laxative, but it is stocked as cut for cocaine and other white powders. The person behind the counter is likely to give you a knowing wink while making- the transaction, but have no idea of its usefulness in explosive manufacture. If there are no head shops in your area, a check of the classified section in High Times may turn up a supplier or two. [Pg.74]

The mannite should dissolve quickly as it is added to the nitric and mixed in. To ensure rapid dissolving and quick reaction, the mannitol should be finely powdered before it is used. Often-times, mannite is sold in head shops in quarter-ounce pressed blocks. These blocks will have to be mashed with a fork to break them up. [Pg.78]

The location of exchangers is the key to maintenance. Usually the back head is kept at a distance of about three meters from the piperack support columns. Access equipment must be able to get in and remove the sheU cover and flange head. Access area must also be provided to handle and remove the sheU cover usually located under the piperack. The tube-pulling or rodding-out area must be kept clear to allow access to the channel end. This space should be at least equal to the tube length and about two meters from the tube sheet location. Tube removal space should be allowed for but is not mandatory if grade-mounted heat exchangers are used and mobile maintenance equipment employed to pick up the entire unit and transfer it to the repair shop. [Pg.78]

In the moment of starting a new pump, that pump is headed for the day when it will need repair even if the design and operation is correet. One faetor that determines the repair is internal wear. Imagine an ideal application where the pump is operating at its BEP and the system is stable. Does this condition ever exit If you answer yes, you are one of fortunate few. However at some point, even if it does not break, the pump will go to the shop because of internal wear. This chapter presents different sources of internal wear and suggestions to extend the useful running time of the pump. [Pg.232]

Upon receipt at the analytical laboratory, the receiving department should immediately examine the integrity of the samples. If a sample is damaged, or its integrity is in any way questionable, or it does not meet the protocol definition (e.g., leaf rather than head lettuce), then a re-shop should be ordered (i.e., the shopper is required... [Pg.240]

Thereafter, the primary functions of the study QA specialist fell into two main headings. First, GLP compliance during the collection and documentation of commodity samples had to be assured. This was done via observation of several collections for different shops (collection incidents) at various geographic locations. In these audits, the study QA specialist examined specific items, such as (1) did the shopper follow the written instructions, (2) were the correct types and numbers of samples collected, (3) was the documentation maintained as required, (4) were the samples labeled and packaged correctly, and (5) were the samples delivered to the shipper as required Findings were communicated to study management and used as appropriate in subsequent shops. [Pg.246]

If it is necessary to dismantle a pump after the performance test for the sole purpose of machining impellers to meet the tolerances for differential head, no retest will be required unless the reduction in diameter exceeds 5 percent of the original diameter. The diameter of the impeller at the time of shop test, as well as the final diameter of the impeller, shall be recorded on a certified shop test curve that shows the operating characteristics after the diameter of the impeller has been reduced. [Pg.54]

Later she was able to put more names to faces. Jimi and Stash the two slave boys, Amfetta Mean the other head drag waitress, Bliss the drag king, Neil from the leather shop and his boyfriend the policeman. A discarded cassock from the entree wardrobe would reappear on traffic years later in a photo shoot of Bee s and finish with the Professor when his own had fallen apart. So that everything was somehow linked even if you didn t know it at the time. And the tables were always turning. [Pg.164]
