In high pressure axial screw extruders, dies and their orifice(s) can have different shapes and sizes. Their selection depends on the plasticity and flow properties of the materials to be extruded and, obviously, on the desired product shape and size. Two basic types of dies are used in extrusion. For the formation of small agglomerates, such as strands or pellets, extrusion plates are used. Such plates can be simple or more complex, the latter, so called sandwich types, consist of multiple plates that are made of different materials. Fig. 8.78 presents sketches of two extrusion plate designs. Parameters are based on manufacturer know-how as well as vendor experience from different applications and can not be discussed here. 

A presentation sketch is very detailed and made to look realistic, usually as a three-dimensional pictorial view such as an isometric or perspective drawing.

These presentation sketches represent designers ideas for a futuristic bridge and an electric tea kettle. 

As we saw in Chapter 4, presentation sketches are very important in the design process. Imagine how difficult it would be for the engineers to explain ideas using only words. Clients or committee members would have a hard time visualizing the engineer s ideas. Presentation sketches help the clients or committee members "see" the engineer s ideas and plans.

Such requirements are meant to change the usual configurations and technologies usually associated with photothermal set-up. These changes mainly affect the IR detection devices, the optical components associated with the excitation and detection flux and the signal acquisition hardware and software. Figure 9 presents a sketch of the so-called pre-industrial demonstrator built from those different improvements. 

As an example for an efficient yet quite accurate approximation, in the first part of our contribution we describe a combination of a structure adapted multipole method with a multiple time step scheme (FAMUSAMM — fast multistep structure adapted multipole method) and evaluate its performance. In the second part we present, as a recent application of this method, an MD study of a ligand-receptor unbinding process enforced by single molecule atomic force microscopy. Through comparison of computed unbinding forces with experimental data we evaluate the quality of the simulations. The third part sketches, as a perspective, one way to drastically extend accessible time scales if one restricts oneself to the study of conformational transitions, which arc ubiquitous in proteins and are the elementary steps of many functional conformational motions.
