Preparatory Measures

For economical and complete cathodic protection against external corrosion without harmful effects on nearby installations, the storage tank to be protected must have good coating and therefore require a low protection current density. In addition, it must have no electrical contacts with other buried installations, such as [Pg.290]

Recently in some types of refuelling stations, corrosion-resistant materials have been used between the filter-water separator and the outlet pipeline and valves, usually stainless steel, rarely aluminum. If these are buried, they must have good insulating coating and be electrically separated from other tank installations by insulating couplings. [Pg.291]

This section presents a number of preparatory measures recommended to help minimize exposure during a nuclear, chemical, or biological attack. [Pg.175]

Some organizations establish a highly trained and specialized corporate incident investigation staff as a preparatory measure for rare major catastrophic incidents. The ability to deploy the trained team quickly is essential. The faster the team is in place, the higher the quality of the data they collect. [Pg.108]

I ask for permission to authorise the preparatory measures mentioned in paragraphs 5 and 6 above, concluded Hankey, as an essential preparation for possible retaliation. ... [Pg.204]

Nowadays, high-pressure flushing is used almost exclusively for the cleaning of waste water pipelines. This cleaning process serves to remove any deposits and blockages, and is also a preparatory measure for pipeline inspections and, if necessary, for repairs. [Pg.291]

Since the roughness values of 5 p to 2 p can often not be achieved mechanically in mold making, preparatory measures are taken before superfinishing. Such a measure is also the removal of an electrical discharge layer. [Pg.549]

Preparation This phase compromises the preparatory measures like the development of different seminars for teachers and introductory seminars for the students, the design of the software for the web based learning tool and the development of Internet pages for the case studies. [Pg.246]

Cleanup a preparatory step following extraction of a sample medium designed to remove components that may interfere with subsequent analytical measurements. [Pg.327]

The original NP- and PP-type preparatory sub-sequences can be refined to partially compensate instrumental problems such as magnet heating during the measurements (see Section IV.D). The results are the so-called balanced NP and balanced PP preparatory sub-sequences. [Pg.461]

The authors thank J. E. van Laar for the elaborate preparatory experimental work and the measurements with the cone-plate viscometer. [Pg.80]

In this method, the components of a reactive mixture are thermally conditioned and mixed at a low temperature, which retards the reaction during the preparatory stages. The working cell of a viscometer is thermally conditioned at the same temperature. When the sample is placed in the measuring device, a programmed heater controls the temperature changes. In the simplest case, the temperature changes linearly as ... [Pg.105]

During the Preparatory Commission (PC) for the OPCW, a group of experts for the purposes of evaluating newly measured analytical data, was formed and was known as the Task Force of the Analytical Databases. These experts were nominated by their Governments and were all from the States Parties of the OPCW. The first meeting was organized by the Secretariat with the experts from those Member States that provided data, in March 1994. [Pg.134]

During this preparation stage, analysts will frequently find that there is insufficient quantity or quality of measurements to close the material balance. Analysts should m e every effort to measure all stream flows and compositions for the actual test. They should not rely upon closing material balances by back-calculating missing streams. The material balance closure will provide a check on the vahdity of the measurements. This preparatory material balance will help to identify additional measurements and schedule the installation of the additional instruments. [Pg.2308]

The system of potential pulses applied in this study consisted of two stages a preparatory stage and a measuring one (Figure 2). At the preparatory stage of the potential pulses the electrode was kept at =. 2 W for 20 seconds to oxidize the... [Pg.508]

In the Ektachem 700 the electrolytes (sodium, potassium, chloride, carbon-dioxide) are measured potentiometrically. The slides to be measured are transported by the instrument via the slide rotor to the preparatory position from where the slides are immediately pushed into the incubator. In the incubator the temperature of the slides is maintained at 25.0 0.5°C. The evaporation is minimised since each slide is covered up. A total of 17 slides can be accommodated in the incubator. The total incubation time is 3 minutes. After incubation has been completed, the slide is transported to the measurement position in the electrometer and potentiometric measurement can now be performed. The result is transmitted to the computer and the measured slide can be ejected to waste. [Pg.74]

Because biological attacks will most likely not be detected until many days later, the threat of being infected by the release is long past by the time individuals become aware of an attack. Thus, there is no practical benefit at that point to taking shelter or wearing dust masks with particulate filters. To be useful, protective measures would need to be in place at the time of exposure. So, we discuss these below as a useful preparatory action. If an attack were, however, identified at the time, use of such a mask and finding shelter would provide effective protection. [Pg.22]

Preparatory activities comprise special measures in terms of personal counselling and job placement. They also include Swedish language courses for immigrants or schooling for jobseekers under 50 with certain gaps in their education. [Pg.273]
