Pregnancy control

This compound has antihistaminic activity and is usehil in the therapy of motion sickness. It may also be effective in the control of post-operative nausea and vomiting. It is classified as FDA Category B for Pregnancy, ie, no demonstrated risks shown in animal studies however, no controlled trials in pregnant women. Large doses may cause drowsiness and dry mouth owing to decreased secretion of saUva. 

Injected formulation of leuptoleine and triptoreline [57773-63 ] ate used to treat metastasized cancer of the prostrate, whereas an encapsulated formulation of bromocryptin [25614-03-3] is used to inhibit milk production in women after pregnancy. The performance of encapsulated hormonal polypeptides is weU documented (47). Injectable biodegradable mictocapsules loaded with fertUity control agents have been under development for a number of years and have been carried to various stages of clinical development (48) (see Contraceptives). 

Both carvedilol and labetalol are contraindicated in patients with hypersensitivity to the drag, bronchial asthma, decompensated heart failure, and severe bradycardia The drugs are used cautiously in patients with drag-controlled congestive heart failure, chronic bronchitis, impaired hepatic or cardiac function, in those with diabetes, and during pregnancy (Category C) and lactation. 

Magnesium plays an important role in the transmission of nerve impulses. It is also important in the activity of many enzyme reactions, for example carbohydrate metabolism. Magnesium sulfate is used as replacement therapy in hypomagnesemia Magnesium sulfate (MgS04) is used in die prevention and control of seizures in obstetric patients with pregnancy-induced hypertension (PIH, also referred to as eclampsia and preeclampsia). It may also be added to TPN mixtures. 

There are few absolute contraindications for deep peeling, with the exception of physical or mental instability. During pregnancy and lactation any cosmetic intervention is considered to be undesirable. Reproductive values indicated no dominant lethal mutations during 35 days post-treatment (Table IV). The period examined corresponded to postmeiotic stages of spermatogenesis. The incidence of pregnancies at all mating trials in the treated groups remained lower than the control. 

The initial concern for the possible hazard to humans exposed to 2,4,5-T was precipitated by teratologic studies conducted by Bionetics Research Institute under contract from The National Cancer Institute (2). In these studies, large doses of 2,4,5-T were administered to pregnant rats and mice for nine of the 21 days of pregnancy. The incidence of fetal abnormalities was slightly higher in the treated animals than in control animals. Later tests indicated that these abnormalities (cleft palate) may have been caused by 27 8 ppm of 2,3,7,8-tetrachloro-dibenzo-p-dioxin present as a contaminant in the 2,4,5-T sample used in the Bionetic study (3). After the results of the study were made known, the Panel on Herbicides of the President s Science Advisory Committee studied the total 2,4,5-T situation. The report of this committee was published in March, 1971 (4). 

A previously unexplained observation of a link between nose and gonads — the so-called naso-genital relationship — can now be placed in context. Removal of the relay site for the pump-regulator (see above) by extirpation of the sphenopalatine ganglion was found to result in a state of pseudo-pregnancy (Rosen et al, 1940). Interruption of stimulus access would clearly prevent most uptake through loss of control over the pump. A diestrous state would be induced (Sec. 5.3 below) attributable to the lack of male urinary semiochemicals. 

Chasnoff et al. (1984) have reported on the developmental outcome of three groups of children, from birth until 2 years of age. The methadone, polydrug, and control groups demonstrated a downward trend in scores in the Bayley Scales of Infant Development. Their interpretation is that the infants environment and subsequent lack of stimulation has a more direct influence on long-term development than does maternal use of drugs during pregnancy.
