The paper presents the results from systematic comparisons of contrast and resolution obtained with different types of radiation sources on steel thicknesses from 5 to 40 mm. These results have been taken into account with the definitions of the European standard for radiographic inspection of weldments (EN 1435) that is approved since 1997. Conclusions from practical investigations on pipe line sites, in petrochcemical plants and in nuclear power stations will be discussed as well. Furthermore, the presentation will stipulate a variety of advantages obtained from the new source in terras of coUimation and radiation protection. [Pg.423]

The denominator in this efficiency definition quantifies all of the net thermal energy that is consumed in the process, either directly or indirectly. For a thermochemical process, the majority of the high-temperature heat from the reactor is supplied directly to the process as heat. In Table 5.2 I have compared the features of traditional fossil and nuclear power plants with those of this solar-hydrogen power plant of the future. Vector analysis. The author learnt vector analysis in a 1950 postgraduate course, based on the German book of 1932, Classical Electricity and Magnetism, by M. Abraham and R. Becker, published by Blackie and Sons, Glasgow. There are several approaches to the problem of nuclear fusion. The most promising is definitely magnetic confinement fusion.
