Potassium iodide solution, formulation

During ozonolysis of vinyl fluoride an explosive solid residue is produced, and the volatile ozonide, trapped at —63°C, may explode spontaneously or dining removal by syringe [1]. During the cryogenic distillation of the ozonide (formulated as a trioxolane), several explosions occurred, and the explosive reaction residue was destroyed by digestion with 5% potassium iodide solution for 24 h [2],... [Pg.286]

USP XXII specifies that sodium iodide contains 99—101.5% Nal, calculated on an anhydrous basis (4). It is used iaterchangeably with potassium iodide as a therapeutic agent, except where sodium ion is contraindicated (see Potassium compounds). Intravenous sodium iodide formulations have been used for a variety of diseases, from thyroid deficiency to neuralgia (see Thyroid and antithyroid preparations). However, these solutions are no longer listed ia the XFXUII (4), iadicatiag that their therapeutic value has not been satisfactorily demonstrated. [Pg.190]

A. Oral (Thyro-Block, others), scored tablets (130-mg and 65-mg) of potassium iodide. Formulations of potassium iodide syrups (325 mg KI/5 mL) and oral solutions such as Lugol s solution (5% iodine and 10% Kl) may be found. [Pg.457]

As esters the alkyl halides are hydrolysed by alkalis to alcohols and salts of halogen acids. They are converted by nascent hydrogen into hydrocarbons, by ammonia into amines, by alkoxides into ethers, by alkali hydrogen sulphides into mercaptans, by potassium cyanide into nitriles, and by sodium acetate into acetic esters. (Formulate these reactions.) The alkyl halides are practically insoluble in water but are, on the other hand, miscible with organic solvents. As a consequence of the great affinity of iodine for silver, the alkyl iodides are almost instantaneously decomposed by aqueous-alcoholic silver nitrate solution, and so yield silver iodide and alcohol. The important method of Ziesel for the quantitative determination of alkyl groups combined in the form of ethers, depends on this property (cf. p. 80). [Pg.98]

The determination is performed by single-column ion chromatography with inverse photometric detection. A Vydac 302IC4.6 anion exchange column is used at 35-C with a mobile phase of aqueous 0.003 M potassium hydrogen phthalate solution. Ultraviolet detection is at 290 nm conductivity detection may also be used. Iodide ion may be used as an internal standard if absent from the formulation tested. Samples and standards are diluted in water and injected directly, with quantification by peak area. [Pg.113]
