Potassium hydroxide, use

Calcein solution. Dissolve sufficient calcein, or its disodium salt, in the minimum amount of 0.40M potassium hydroxide solution and dilute with water to give a concentration of 60 mg L"1 in a graduated flask. A small amount of EDTA solution (about 1.0 mL of 0.03M for every 100 mL calcein solution) may be needed in the calcein solution to achieve balancing of the blank on the fluorimeter. This is only necessary in those cases in which the potassium hydroxide used is found to contain a small amount of calcium impurity. [Pg.738]

The ergotamine to lysergic acid reaction may be scaled up or down by multiplying the quantities involved by a proportionality constant all quantities should be multiplied by the same constant. It has been found that the quantities of water and potassium hydroxide used in the hydrolysis of ergotamine are not particularly critical and their relative concentrations may be varied somewhat to meet other considerations. As a rule, ergotamine should be hydrolysed with about a 1.5 to 2.5 molar potassium hydroxide solution. [Pg.137]

Quantitative Determination. — Dilute 1 gm. of phosphoric acid with 30 cc. of water, and titrate with normal potassium hydroxide, using plienolphthalein as indicator. At least 17 cc. of normal alkali must be added to produce the red color. [Pg.28]

Nitrogen. — Dissolve 10 gm. of reduced iron in a mixture of 20 cc. of concentrated sulphuric acid (sp. gr. 1.84) and 200 cc. of water, with the aid of heat. Allow to cool, and when cold add 100 cc. of sodium hydroxide solution (sp. gr. 1.3), and distil off about 50 cc., collecting the distillate in a receiver containing about 20 cc. of water and 2 to 3 cc. of decinormal hydrochloric acid. Titrate the distillate with decinormal potassium hydroxide, using methyl orange as indicator. The ammonia should not have neutralized more than 0.2 cc. of the acid. [Pg.116]

A large low-boiling fraction indicates loo much moisture in the potassium hydroxide used. See Note 1,... [Pg.2]

In a study of the diastereoselective hydrogenation of one of the chiral precursors of lysine, i.e., 170, this compound was hydrogenated in acetic anhydride and potassium hydroxide using Raney nickel to produce diace-tyllysineamide 171, A,AT-diacetyl-1,5-diaminopentane, and, if the amount of alkali is increased, imidazolono-1,3-diazocine 172. It was concluded that 172 arose from ring closure of 171 (87JOU306). [Pg.39]

The micro channel system was fabricated by standard silicon micromachining via etching of a silicon wafer with potassium hydroxide using thermal oxide as an etch mask [6], The double mixing tee configuration consists of six micro channels. For fluid connection, an outlet hole was drilled into the silicon chip. The chip was anodically bonded to a glass slide with three inlet holes, clamped in a holder and, thereby, connected to a commercially available quench-flow instrument... [Pg.261]

Acid Number Determine as directed under Acid Number, Appendix IX, but modified as follows Add 30 mL of toluene and 30 mL of neutral ethanol to an accurately weighed 5-g sample. Titrate with 0.5 N alcoholic potassium hydroxide, using phenolphthalein TS as the indicator. [Pg.131]

If potassium perbromate is the desired product, neutralize the solution potentiometrically with 4 M potassium hydroxide, using 0.1 M potassium hydroxide to reach the precise end point. It is advisable to keep a little of the perbromic acid solution in reserve in case the end point is overshot. Glassware may be used for this and subsequent steps. [Pg.8]

Paraffin wax separates out from the nitroglycerine w hen the ether is evaporated off. It is pressed between filter papers and identified by its form and melting point. To determine its quantity the extract is melted and separated in a warmed separating funnel. Resin may be saponified by hot soda, reprecipitated with acid and weighed, or may be titrated with alcoholic potassium hydroxide, using phenol phthalein as indicator. [Pg.442]

To determine the acid number by the potentiometric titration method (ASTM D-664, IP 177), the sample is dissolved in a mixture of toluene and isopropyl alcohol containing a small amount of water and titrated poten-tiometrically with alcoholic potassium hydroxide using a glass indicating electrode and a calomel reference electrode. The meter readings are plotted... [Pg.49]

DISPOSAL AND STORAGE METHODS absorb liquid in sand or inert absorbent, and place in a sanitary landfill dispose of container and unused contents in accordance with federal, state and local requirements store in a cool, dry, well-ventilated location store only if stabilized keep away form any area where the fire hazard may be acute separate from incompatibles, including strong oxidants, strong acids, and potassium hydroxide use non-sparking type tools and equipment, including explosion proof ventilation. [Pg.532]
