Polyurethane Modifier

Urethane network polymers are also formed by trimerization of part of the isocyanate groups. This approach is used in the formation of rigid polyurethane-modified isocyanurate (PUIR) foams (3). [Pg.341]

The avadabihty of PMDI also led to the development of polyurethane-modified isocyanurate (PUIR) foams by 1967. The PUIR foams have superior thermal stabiUty and combustibiUty characteristics, which extend the use temperature of insulation foams well above 150°C. The PUIR foams are used in pipe, vessel, and solar panel insulation glass-fiber-reinforced PUIR roofing panels having superior dimensional stabiUty have also been developed. More recently, inexpensive polyester polyols based on residues obtained in the production of dimethyl terephthalate (DMT) have been used in the formulation of rigid polyurethane and PUIR foams. [Pg.342]

Mor-Flo CS-38-S1 is a polyurethane modified acrylic concrete sealer. A simple water dilution and the addition of a preservative will produce a ready-to-use product. Leveling and wetting on tightly troweled concrete or other extremely smooth surfaces can be improved by the addition of 0.5% Fluorad FC-129 (1% active solution). Foaming, which may be a problem depending on the application method, can be greatly reduced by adding 0.03% of an antifoam emulsion (2). [Pg.284]

The first patent of a polyurethane-modified system was taken by Szukiewiczl l in 1959. Another system modified with a polyurethane resin was patented by Shearingl l in 1970. In 1969, Ohama reported the results of a wide-ranging study of a polyurethane-modified mortar system, and this product now is commercially available in Japan. The product consists of three components, i.e., promoter, polyol, and polyisocyanate. The modified system is prepared by the following procedure cement and sand are dry-blended, the promoter component is added to the cement-sand mfacture, and then the polyol component is blended with the mixture. Finally, the polyisocyanate component is mixed with the cement-sand-promoter-polyol mixture until a uniform mortar is obtained. [Pg.198]

The main advantage of polyurethane-modified mortar is an improvement in the strength development at low temperatures or under wet conditions, good adhesion to wet substrates, waterproofness, and abrasion resistance. The properties of the polyurethane-modified mortar are shown in Table... [Pg.198]

Polyurethane-modified polyisocyanurate (PIR) foams have a reputation for being the most flame resistant of the PU related foams used for insulation. They are increasingly being made from an aromatic polyester polyol (APP) and the isocyanate is most often MDI. Unlike pol5mrethanes, however, the amount of MDI is comparatively high. Isoeyanate indices of 250 or higher are used... [Pg.73]

The other film-formers listed in these patents include polyurethane dispersions, a polyurethane modified epoxy dispersion, and a polyvinyl acetate emulsion. The choices of silanes are y-aminopropyltriethoxysilane (AllOO or Z6011), A-P-aminoethyl-y-aminopropyltrimethoxysilane (A1120 or Z6020), and y-glyci-doxypropyltrimethoxysilane (A 187 or Z6040). [Pg.290]

The findings described in this chapter focus on fluorous copolyoxetane soft block surface modifiers. These copolyoxetane polyurethane modifiers bring about new surface properties due to surface concentration and/or phase separation of the soft block. An important theme concerns the effectiveness of a fluorous chaperone in conferring a surface function to a commodity or base polyurethane at 2 wt% or less. Thus, from one perspective, this chapter describes literally and figuratively the interface between specialty fluoropolymers and commodity polyurethanes. A significant applications niche would result if only a small fraction of the 55 billion polyurethane market (2016) [1] employed specialty fluorous modifiers. [Pg.201]
