The mineral schreibersite (FeNiXP is present in meteorites, and in particular in iron meteorites. Polyphosphate minerals have not been found on Earth, except for a few kilograms of a calcium diphosphate-containing mineral in New Jersey (Keefe and Miller, 1995). [Pg.117]

Sodium Metaphosphate, Insoluble, occurs as a white, crystalline powder. It is a high-molecular-weight sodium polyphosphate composed of two long metaphosphate chains (NaP03) that spiral in opposite directions about a common axis. The Na20/P205 ratio is about 1.0. It is practically insoluble in water but dissolves in mineral acids and in solutions of potassium and ammonium (but not sodium) chlorides. The pH of a 1 3 slurry in water is about 6.5. [Pg.424]

In these compounds, two or more phosphate groups bond together via P - O - P bonds to form chains or in some cases cyclic species. In soils and waters polyphosphates generally account for only a small part of the total P content. However, these species are very reactive and in many places they are responsible for anthropogenic pollution of natural water, for instance, by detergents.
