Plug and play

Finally, the topic of standardization ( plug-and-play ) has gained interest. WiU there be modular flexible plants in the future, for multi-purpose and on-site production Concerning the latter, the chemical manufacture of hazardous and explosive substances has attracted readership over many years. [Pg.85]

Component connectors have been mentioned in a variety of patterns in recent years. They date back to Wong s Plug and Play Programming work [Wong90], previous work (mostly in the Smalltalk arena) on code frameworks, and architecture work on components and connectors [Shaw96b]. [Pg.20]

Instrumentation for laboratory automation is increasingly becoming a plug and play operation. Many ancillary pieces of equipment, such as autosamplers, plate handlers, chromatographic instruments, and many classes of spectrometers, have... [Pg.329]

We follow a rule-based method when we analyze risk objects and components and their attributes. These plug-and-play rules can be different for different subjects, research areas, and industries. They can be designed and standardized for different industry sectors, enabling an analytical approach, systematic standardization, and accurate and predictable results. [Pg.183]

If you want to use a cheap laptop for bioinformatics work, make sure beforehand that Linux runs on it without problems. Some products have serious problems because the plug-and-play features of the BIOS cannot be disabled. Usually, information on such problems can be found on the web. [Pg.179]

Similar to computer technologies, so-called plug and play micro fluidic devices were developed. These devices are composed of a fluid driving unit and a polymer chip containing micro fluidic channels and reservoirs. The one and only connection is an electrical bus system which connects the chip with the external control unit. By filling the reservoirs with reagents, the chip can be used for performing chemical reactions or biochemical analysis [72],... [Pg.529]

The second set-up concept from Microinnova, the Lab Experiment Toolbox , has some minor differences from the first concept. It was designed to speed up process development and reduce the time to market of chemicals or compounding products (Figure 4.25) [77]. A modular toolbox has been developed for laboratory-scale experiments. Small tube connections are used to connect various unit operation devices to each other. Process control and user interface are based on Fieldpoint and LabView or Microinnova Process Control. The integration of the sensors into the system is different to the previous concept. The Fieldpoint unit has a front panel, where sensors can be added on a plug-and-play basis. All experimental data are stored in spreadsheets, which can be transferred to common spreadsheet... [Pg.539]

When a pilot system is used for validation, it is preferable to perform an IQ on the system to verify that it actually satisfies the hardware requirements of the software. If an IQ is not performed on this system, at a minimum the details of the hardware (manufacturer, model, serial numbers configuration) should be recorded as part of the OQ. There absolutely needs to be a record of the test bed hardware in case the validity of testing on the pilot hardware is called into question at a later date. Full OQ testing can then be performed on the pilot system. Execution of the OQ on a pilot system does not mean, however, that use of the final hardware systembecomes a plug-and-play affair. There still needs to be full confidence that the system performs in a satisfactory manner on the final hardware. [Pg.235]

Versatile, i.e. capable of testing different types of components (heat exchangers, electrolysers, thermochemical cycles) and/or sub and integrated processes in a view of demonstration. This versatility criterion also denotes the capability for PROHYTEC to be a plug and play like facility. [Pg.328]

We have pursued a plug-and-play strategy with two different energy functions, a molecular mechanics AMBER force field [131,132] and a simplified energy function, along with two different sampling techniques, evolutionary programming [91] and Monte Carlo simulations [118,119,127,128]. [Pg.302]

There is a special case with regard to configuring ISA buses the ISA Plug-and-Play bus. This bus consists of a standard ISA bus and a special set of BIOS extensions. The extensions examine the installed Plug-and-Play-compatible cards at start-up and set them to available settings. At least that s the theory. [Pg.205]

There is very little new information we need to discuss about the configuration of VL-Bus devices. Primarily, they are ISA bus devices with an extra connector. When you configure a VLB card, you perform operations that are similar to those you perform when configuring ISA cards (moving jumpers, setting DIP switches, and so on). However, because the VL-Bus is a more modern bus, some of these cards are Plug and Play or, at the very least, software configurable. [Pg.212]

The final two features of PCI that we should discuss are its backward compatibility and software setup features. The PCI bus uses a chipset that works with PCI, ISA, and EISA. It is possible to have a PC that contains all these buses on the same motherboard. Also, the PCI cards are mostly Plug and Play. The cards will automatically configure themselves for IRQ, DMA, and I/O port addresses. [Pg.213]

Configuration of an AGP expansion card is simplicity itself. Motherboards that support AGP have Plug-and-Play BIOSs that will automatically configure the card. To add an AGP card, simply power down the system, install the card in the AGP slot, and power the system back up. Once the system comes back up, the BIOS will configure the card automatically. Finally, you can install the drivers for your operating system. This step is unnecessary if you have a Plug-and-Play operating system. [Pg.216]
