Plated plastics

Specifications and Test Methods. The American Society of Electroplated Plastics pubHshes a comprehensive book covering most technical aspects of testing and control (24). A number of ASTM standards have been issued that cover thickness, adhesion, and thermal-cycling resistance of the total plated film. Some specifically for plated plastics include ... [Pg.110]

The specific adsorption of H2P04 ions that accompany the UPD of Zn + ions on Pt (platinized electrodes obtained by Pt electrodeposition on the gold-plated plastic foil) electrodes was studied by using a radiotracer method with P phosphate species in the presence of a great excess of C104 ions [196]. It was found that the specific adsorption of species induced... [Pg.740]

Materials commonly use as solid supports include polystyrene, polyvinyl, nylon, glass, nitrocellulose, silica, polyacrylamide, or polystyrene beads. Separation of the bound from the free reagents can be achieved through either filtration for particulate solid supports such as agarose, polyacrylamide, and polystyrene beads, or centrifugation. For disposable forms of solid supports such as multiwell plates, plastic tubes, cuvettes, balls, and dipsticks, separation can be performed through simple rinsing steps. [Pg.692]

Metal-plated plastics find use in the automotive industry, hardware, plumbing fixtures, knobs, and electronic applications (95). [Pg.240]

There has been increasing interest in the process of electro-plating plastics. Plating can produce chromelike, brass, silver, gold, or copper surfaces in both smooth and textured forms. There are several systems available commercially for plating plastic materials. In the case of certain plastics such as electroplated ABS, it can be surface-treated chemically to promote bonding of the metals in subsequent steps. [Pg.553]

It is possible for plated plastics to corrode if the metal coating is not properly applied or if it is damaged in such a way as to allow electrolytic interaction in the plating layers. However, the plastic substrate will not corrode itself, nor will it contribute to further corrosion of the plating layers. In general, plated plastics will fare better than metals when exposed to corrosive environments. [Pg.553]

Thin layers of powdered cellulose, silica gel, alumina, ion-exchange or gel-permeation material supported on glass plates, plastic sheets or aluminium foil development tanks components sometimes examined by reflectance or transmittance densitometry or removed for spectrometric analysis. [Pg.146]

Immunochemical methods for low molecular weight (<1000 D) environmental compounds, such as pesticides, nitro aromatics, and PAHs (polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons) have been developed since more than 25 years (e.g. Hammock and Mumma, 1980 Hammock et al., 1990 Dankwardt, 2000). The most common method is the immunoassay, which is either carried out with (heterogeneous) or without (homogenous) separation steps. Heterogeneous formats that use microtitre plates, plastic tubes and/or membranes as solid supports are more commonly used. [Pg.157]
