Another market for recycled PET is plastic strapping, which is replacing the traditional metal strapping in packaging industry. Since extrusion of PET into straps requires high IV PET, recycled-bottle-grade PET is ideal. Because most... [Pg.371]

Rolling produces a film with predominately MD orientation by accelerating the film from a nip point where the thickness is reduced. Large forces are found at the nip point, but overall orientation can be increased over other forms of MD orientation. Plastic strapping is oriented by this method (40). [Pg.3170]

Strapping. Strapping can be used to secure not only containers but stand-alone unitized loads and palletized unit loads as well. There are two major strapping classifications steel and plastic. Steel strapping is dimensionally stable under all but extreme conditions and plastic strapping is more resilient. [Pg.178]

Plastic strapping continues to stretch under tensioned loads and therefore should not be used where continuous loads are present. However, its resihence keeps it tight on a package or load that shrinks or settles. [Pg.178]

Steel strapping may be applied by manually operated tensioning tools which notch or crimp steels to retain the strapping. Plastic strapping can also be applied both manually and automatically in the same manner as steel strapping. Friction-welding and heat-sealing systems are also available. [Pg.178]

The PTFE chain adopts a slowly twisting hehx with an outer sheath of fluorine atoms encompassing a carbon-based core. There is mutual repulsion of the fluorine atoms. These cylinders can slip past each other and this can lead to cold flow or creep [32]. Creep is permanent deformation of a plastic due to the prolonged application of stress. An example is a plastic strap that is holding a weight and over time permanently stretches and is elongated even after the weight is removed. PTFE is more susceptible to creep than many other polymers. [Pg.128]

Keep walkways free of tripping or slip/ fall hazards such as metal or plastic strapping, grease, oil, rope, scrap, and debris. [Pg.104]

Tlie indi ddual cells are assembled into batteries after a leakage test to check for faulty welding joints in steel containers or cracks and improper seals in the plastic encased cells. Cells that are to be delivered without electroltye are emptied after the fomiation cycles. Tlie steel-cased cells hav e to be separated by mechanical means to prevent intercell shorts and are often assembled into wooden crates. Tlie cells in plastic cases can be cemented together or strapped with tape. [Pg.547]

Openings shall be provided with substantial plastic or metal covers. Screwed connections shall be provided with steel plugs. Lxiose parts and controls shall be boxed in wooden boxes, tagged, and strapped to skid. [Pg.314]

It should be noted that plastic pipes and valves used for DI water have limited structural strength and must be well supported by straps and brackets. [Pg.89]

Miscellaneous Applications. There are many such uses, some of which will be questioned as engineering. Some of these applications include building construction, luggage, safety-helmets, seating, kitchen utensils, rope and strapping, shoe parts, rollers, furniture, and even dentures. This list can go on almost indefinitely and the plastics used, reflecting desired properties, will vary widely. [Pg.15]
