Ecological. This historically venerable strategy is characterized by tactics designed to minimize exposure of plants to pathogens and make environmental conditions unfavorable for disease development. Measures include crop rotation, sanitation, and quarantine. Such procedures are valuable and worthy of further development, but they are generally of limited effectiveness in providing reliably high yield and quality of crops in areas with severe or persistent disease problems. 

The hood and other inaccessible parts of fryer are equipped with spray nozzles as part of the cleaning-in-place (CIP) system installed by the fryer manufacturers. The CIP systems are common with equipment designed for operation in the plants processing meat, poultry, or fish where daily sanitation of the frying system is mandatory. However, the fryer pan, the piping, and the external oil heater must be washed with caustic solution or sanitizing chemical to remove the residual oil and crumbs left after the fryer is emptied. 

Dnring the period since World War II, collaborations between biochemists, applied microbiologists, and chemical engineers have evolved in several complementary directions, as their joint efforts have led to the successful development of innovative processes based on biochemical transformations that take place in creatively designed fermenters and bioreactors. This equipment has been tailormade to satisfy not only the safety, sanitation, and microbiological constraints imposed by the FDA and its counterparts in other nations, but also the labile and shear-sensitive nature of animal and plant cells. The equipment used in traditional facilities for manufacturing biopharmaceutical products consists of stainless steel bioreactors/fermenters, tanks, piping, valves, and so on, that are quasi permanent installations.
