PLANNER module

TaylorMade mns the applications on Hewlett-Packard NT and Unix servers and Oracle databases on Unix. The first two modules installed were for handling demand planning and procurement collaboration with ten suppliers, mostly in Southeast Asia. The demand planner module lets the firm prepare collaborative forecasts based on inputs from internal data, retailers, suppliers, and third-party companies. The company uses this information to ensure that the parts necessary for the assembly of the golf clubs are made and delivered on time. Suppliers have been particularly pleased with the system as they can now view what is happening, particularly in terms of incoming orders, and plan accordingly. 

The main focus of the optimization process in PP/DS is the determination of production campaigns. On the basis of the results determined in SNP optimization, a detailed schedule which considers additional resources and products is created. This schedule is fully executable and there is no need for manual planner intervention, even though manual replanning and adjustments are fully supported within the PP/DS module. Our sample system consists of several major components.15 They could be modules within a single program, or they could be running on different machines. There is a seminar scheduler and a separate vacation planner (and that is just the way we use a more general calendar program).

Maintenance modules are good tools for corrective maintenance. The modules provide a readily available library of standard work instructions for routine corrective maintenance activities. These modules only need minimal additional information when used in planning a job. The module hbrary is saved on a planning database, which can be accessed by planners and the shift maintenance coordinator. These modules can be used for about 40% of corrective maintenance on mechanical and electrical equipment. The priority for developing modules is based on the importance to plant safety, and the intent is to expand the number of modules to include additional corrective maintenance tasks. The use of standard modules for routine corrective maintenance activities improves the avahabihty of safety related systems by allowing work to be planned and executed more quickly.
