Pipe assembly

In case of collisions, inevitable alterations can be designed directly in the CAD system. [Pg.170]

All alterations can be reported on-site, transferred to the CAD system and finally be used for the as-built documentation. [Pg.170]

The way of installing the piping depends on several factors. In case of metal pipes, mainly welding work is required. Here, the non-destructive testing has to be taken into consideration /4.36, 4.37/. Since x-ray tests are often concerned, the test areas have to be barred or secured. Careless coordination may result in the impediment of the actual piping installation. [Pg.170]

Apart from the usual removable joints such as flanges, screw connections and couphngs, plastic pipes are either glued or welded. In the case of welding, the so-called hot-plate welding or electric socket welding is concerned /4.38, 4.39/. [Pg.170]

both variants are appUed at the same time. In case of high-temperature pipes the calculation of the stress curves is often inevitable, so the site-run piping is no longer possible. The advantages of the site-run piping are obvious in case of pipes with small nominal widths which do not require stress calculation. [Pg.171]

An important practical question is, what is the representative pipe diameter in loading circuits comprising different sizes of pipe This has a large effect on the values calculated for velocity and velocity-diameter product. As an example, static ignition of ester mist in a rail car (5-1.3.1) involved 1450 gpm through a 6-in. pipe (v = 5 m/s and vd = 0.76 mVs) followed by a short 4-in. dip pipe assembly (y = 11 m/s and vd = 1.15 mVs). Were nonconductive liquid flow rate restrictions applied to the semiconductive ester (time constant —0.01 s) involved in this fire, the flow rate based on the 4-in. pipe would be unacceptably large based either on a 7 m/s maximum velocity or a 0.80 mVs maximum vd product. However, based on the 6-in. pipe upstream the flow velocity is less than 7 m/s and also meets API s vd < 0.80 mVs criterion. [Pg.109]

General corrosion damage was the cause of failure of an A1 alloy welded pipe assembly in an aircraft bowser which was attacked by a deicing-fluid — water mixture at small weld defects . Selective attack has been reported in welded cupro-nickel subjected to estuarine and seawater environments . It was the consequence of the combination of alloy element segregation in the weld metal and the action of sulphate reducing bacteria (SRB). Sulphide-coated Cu-enriched areas were cathodic relative to the adjacent Ni-rich areas where, in the latter, the sulphides were being continuously removed by the turbulence. Sulphite ions seemed to act as a mild inhibitor. [Pg.101]

Lap-joint flanges, Figure 13.33c are used for piped work. They are economical when used with expensive alloy pipe, such as stainless steel, as the flange can be made from inexpensive carbon steel. Usually a short lapped nozzle is welded to the pipe, but with some schedules of pipe the lap can be formed on the pipe itself, and this will give a cheap method of pipe assembly. [Pg.859]

Some localized areas may receive higher than average doses of radiation, however. Examples would be fuel storage canals and areas adjacent to pipe assemblies. Table 49-2 outlines some typical areas. [Pg.336]

Flow run — A set of components, valves, instruments, and piping assembled together to control the pressure and flow of a particular fluid. Several different flow runs (air, oxygen, natural gas, water, etc.) are typically mounted on a single valve stand. [Pg.285]

Instruments IR-85 Fourier Transform infrared spectrometer, through an IBM GC-IR interface. The interface consisted of a gold-coated Pyrex light-pipe with potassium bromide windows. A scan rate of 6 scans/sec and a spectral resolution of 8 cm- - were used for data acquisition. Samples were introduced into the system via splitless injections. A fused silica capillary column, 30 m x 0.32 mm i d DB-WAX (dj 1.0 pm), was employed with the outlet end connected directly to the GC-IR light-pipe entrance. Helium was used as the carrier gas at an average linear velocity of 41.4 cm/sec (35°C). No make-up gas was employed in the system. The column temperature was programmed from 35°C to 180°C at 2°C/min. The GC-IR light-pipe assembly was maintained at 170°C. [Pg.67]

The polymerization reactor is made of large diameter pipes assembled in a long vertical loop configuration. Early designs consisted of four- or six-leg loops. The reactor walls are made of carbon steel and are equipped with water jackets to control temperature in the isothermal reactor. Ethylene is polymerized under a total pressure of about 25 bars to 40 bars and at a temperature between 75°C and 110°C (167°F and 230°F). The recycle diluent, fresh monomer, comonomer, hydrogen, catalyst and co-catalyst (when required), are fed to the reactor. Polyethylene is formed as discrete particles in a rapidly circulating diluent-polymer slurry. On average, 98% of the ethylene is polymerized. [Pg.211]
