Ecstasy most commonly comes in the form of a small pill (Figure 3.2). These pills come in a large variety of shapes and colors with various designs imprinted on them. A typical Ecstasy pill costs between 10 and 25 and contains 75-150 milligrams of MDMA. Since these pills look so much like candy, they are often concealed by mixing them into a bag of M Ms or Skittles , or even placing the pills inside a Pez dispenser. The pills are usually chewed or taken with a drink. In rarer instances, the pills are crushed into a powder and snorted or injected intravenously, or the pills are inserted into the rectum ( shafting ). 

Rohypnol was originally manufactured in the form of a small round white pill, each a little over a centimeter in diameter (see Figure 5.1), with the word Roche stamped on it. Each pill contained 1-2 milligrams of the drug. On the street, these pills cost anywhere from 2- 10 each. While many illicit users of Rohypnol chose to take the pill orally, some ground the pills into a fine white powder so it could be snorted or mixed into a drink. 

Although the feed additive uses of antibiotics have been emphasized, it should be noted that the uses as injectables for therapy, mammary infusions for mastitis, boluses, pills, capsules, medicated blocks, and drinking water formulations include a wider variety of antibiotics than are added to feeds. Many of these are currently used at the discretion of the meat producer or dairyman, others must be used under the direction of a veterinarian. For example, chloramphenicol is an antibiotic which the veterinarian has access to, but which the FDA has indicated should not be used in livestock destined for human consumption, primarily because of the... 

There is an evolving variety of alternative healthcare practices and products to choose from. (See Terminology sidebar.) Adults and adolescents alike are asking themselves questions such as, Should I take a pill for my headache, or drink chamomile herbal tea There are several scientific counterparts to this seemingly simple question, for example Are these both remedies Are they equally effective Is one healthier or less toxic than the other Can they be used together At this time, there is no comparative information on codeine versus alternative medicine (e.g., acupuncture) as effective treatments for pain, cough, and diarrhea.

Rohypnol causes sleepiness and memory loss when dissolved in an alcoholic drink therefore, a blue dye has been added to the pills to prevent this from occurring unnoticed. 

In contrast to the commodity products, the NP-rich pltmt materitds added to the staple ingredients to give flavour, odour or colour to a food have often had very high value. It is the NPs that humans desire or even crave in their foods, not the nutritional substances. Not only have humans appreciated NPs in their foods, they have also used NPs much more widely. Drinks are more enjoyable if they have a flavour. life becomes more pleasant if the nose is stimulated by the NPs in scents or perfumes. Pills and potions containing NPs, NPs that might have a pharmacological effect, are also more likely to benefit from a placebo effect if they have a distinctive taste. The most extreme case of this interest and attraction to certain NPs is formd in narcotics. 

Herbal pills, tablets or capsules should generally be taken with warm water. However, an exception is made to these two principles if the patient suffers from an excess heat syndrome in which the heat is so strong that it is impossible to accept any warm drinks. In this case, since the administration of warm fluids may cause vomiting, herbal medicines can be taken cool.

How The claim is that Gingko biloba increases the function of acetylcholine neurons and thereby enhances memory and arouses and improves attentional ability. 

In 1903, barbital with the brand name of Veronal was marketed as a sleeping pill. Before that time, remedies for insomnia included drinking alcohol or taking bromides, chloral hydrate, or opiates. 

During the 1930s, many Americans received barbiturate prescriptions to help them sleep or relax. However, people discovered that barbiturates produced an intoxicating effect similar to that produced by drinking alcohol. People took barbiturates to get drunk. They combined the pills with alcohol to become more intoxicated. 

Author Jacqueline Susann said that she wrote Valley of the Dolls to warn people against taking drugs and drinking alcohol. Her book told the story of three women who used diet pills, barbiturates, and alcohol. 

While promoting her book, Susann spoke about the hazards of drugs. She talked about how continued use of pills and alcohol could lead a person to consume more of each. The person could become confused about the amount consumed. In that confusion, the person would take another drink or pill and could die. 

Less commonly, white LSD powder is squeezed into tiny pills (called microdots) or placed in capsules. It can also be formed into clear gelatin squares called window panes. In the 1990s, LSD has turned up at raves in blue-colored gel wraps that look like bubble-wrap packing material and in small breath freshener-type spray bottles. LSD has also been found on or in postage stamps, cookies, drinks, sugar cubes, and commercially produced candies. 

Party-goers should remember that even though legal Rohypnol pills will emit a blue color when dissolved in liquid, the blue is not as noticeable when the pill is put in a dark ale, fruit punch, cola, or other colored beverage. It will, however, make the drink turn slightly cloudy. If it looks suspicious, the best advice is not to drink it. 

Weight loss supplements, whether in the form of pills, powders, foods, or drinks, are a booming business. However, there are many other ways in which companies claim to help people achieve the weight, body shape, and overall look of their dreams. Here are some examples of other weight loss programs and claims ... 

That stimulants should increase children s performance is not surprising when we consider that stimulants have the same effect on adults. From the caffeine in the coffee adults drink when they feel drowsy to the over-the-counter pep pills college students take to help them study late into the night, stimulants help individuals be more alert, concentrate better, and think more clearly. These effects, however, do not last indefinitely. Also, when taken in excess, stimulants actually make the user feel drugged and sluggish. As with any drug, there is no way to predict when this will happen.
