Interplanar Spacings. Diffractometer alignment procedures require the use of a well-prepared polycrystalline specimen. Two standard samples found to be suitable are silicon and a-quartz (including Novaculite). The 26 values of several of the most intense reflections for these materials are listed in Table 7.6 (Tables of Interplanar Spacings d vs. Diffraction Angle 26 for Selected Targets, Picker Nuclear, White Plains, N.Y., 1966). To convert to d for Ka or to d for Ka2, multiply the tabulated d value (Table 7.6) for Ka by the factor given below ... [Pg.702]

Because the regions of the alimentary tract vary widely ia pH and chemical composition, many different commercial formulations of barium sulfate are available. The final preparations of varyiag viscosity, density, and formulation stabiUty levels are controlled by the different size, shape, uniformity and concentration of barium sulfate particles and the presence of additives. The most important additives are suspending and dispersiag agents used to maintain the suspension stabiUty. Commercial preparations of barium sulfate iaclude bulk and unit-dose powders and suspensions and principal manufacturers are E-Z-EM (Westbury, New York), Lafayette-Pharmacol, Inc. (Lafayette, Indiana), and Picker International, Inc. (Cleveland, Ohio). [Pg.469]

Once the plant is ready, the cotton is mechanically harvested with either a spindle picker or cotton stripper. The spindle picker selectively harvests seed cotton from open boUs. The unopened boUs are left on the plant and can be picked at a later date. The spindle picker uses a rotating tapered barbed spindle to remove the cotton from the bur (seed case). The seed cotton is wrapped around the spindle, pulled from the bur, removed from the spindle with a mbber doffer, and then transferred to a basket. [Pg.309]

Benzoyl suinde [644-32-6] M 174.4, m 131.2-132.3 . About 300mL of solvent was blown off from a filtered soln of benzoyl disulfide (25g) in acetone (350mL). The remaining acetone was decanted from the solid which was recrystd first from 300mL of 1 1 (v/v) EtOH/ethyl acetate, then from 300mL of EtOH, and finally from 240mL of 1 1 (v/v) EtOH/ethyl acetate. Yield about 40% [Pryor and Pickering J Am Chem Soc 84 2705 7962]. Handle in a fume cupboard because o/TOXICITY and obnoxious odour. [Pg.126]

The Pickering A Risk Assessment (PARA) (Ontario Hydro, 1995) is also a level 3 PSA for 1 of the 4 units at Pickering. A difference between PARA and DPSE is that sequences beyond the design basis were modeled using the MAAP-CANDU codes with best estimate assumptions. Other parts of the analysis used licensing-type conservative assumptions. [Pg.406]

The Pickering risk is estimated to be 2E-4 Sv/y to an individual at the site boundary and about 4L-.i person-Sv/y to the surrounding population. Both of which are less than DPSE in spite of age of station, the higher demographics, and the inclusion of beyond design basis events. The mean site economic risk was estimated to be 1.5 M /reactor-y,... [Pg.407]
