Physical facilities, surveillance

Until progress can be made in development of practical and affordable online contaminant monitoring and surveillance systems, most chemical industrial facilities must use other approaches to contaminant monitoring and surveillance. This includes monitoring data of physical and chemical contamination surrogates, pressure change abnormalities, free and total chlorine residual, temperature, dissolved oxygen, and conductivity. [Pg.219]

All respirators other than some of the hood-type PAPRs require a respirator fit test. All persons wearing a respirator should attend a medical surveillance program to quality them to wear the device. In some Instances, this will necessitate a physical examination and pulmonary function tests. An annual fit test and medical examination Is required. Many health care facilities elect to use the hood-type PAPR because It requires no fit test and It allows greater mobility and excellent visibility without a substantial workload (Figure 1.11). [Pg.12]

The physical protection system is an integral part of the plant layout of AHWR. The plant is divided into a nuclear island and an administrative island. The plant layout is designed with a dual-layered security arrangement to provide enhanced physical protection to the nuclear island. The nuclear island is isolated from the administrative facilities by double-wire fencing with an additional security arrangement. The double fencing also provides for electronic surveillance. Independent roads for patrolling by security personnel are also provided. The plant layout is shown in Fig. 15.4. [Pg.419]
