Photographic Documentation

Photographic documentation permits the evaluation of results and programming of future procedures. 

Document all field observations on the appropriate forms. Written and photographic documentation of the sampling locations should record the design and materials used for construction of the sampling location, the procedures used to collect samples, and any potential sources of contamination that may bias the sample results. 

The following photographic documentation of the process of extracting antimony from its ore made by one of my French correspondents and one of his colleagues. He says -"These pictures describe an experiment undertaken a few years ago related to the Dry path of antimony (or Stibnite Path) as followed by E. Canseliet and, I guess (but opinions could differ on this point ) by Fulcanelli. The first group concerns the "liquation", i.e. the preliminary purification of the antimony ore (stibinite). The second series shows the Separation. Except for the ore which came from Bolivia, we worked with commercial products coming from a local chemical dealer."... 

Medical and legal personnel may have need for photographic documentation of injuries. This area is usually best left to the medical and legal experts.

The final morphological diagnosis is reached by means of laparoscopy with photographic documentation (s. figs. 28.7, 28.13) as well as targeted biopsies, (s. fig. 28.14) Laparoscopy is strongly indicated when hepatocellular carcinoma is suspected due to an increase in the ai-foetoprotein value and/or sonographic peculiarities. 

If there is no photographic documentation system in the workplace but a TLC scanner with an analog printer is available, all chromatograms can be plotted and compared with each other. Today, this fingerprint method is mainly used with samples of complex composition, e.g. phytopharmaceuticals.

Using digital cameras is also a type of photographic documentation. Nearly all advice for practical use given in Section 8.3 apply here too. However digital cameras need a computer-controlled system, and likewise when working with video cameras. Therefore most of the advice given in Section 8.4 also applies here.

An optimized rat sidewall model can be used reproducibly to evaluate antiadhesion formulations in conjxmction with an adopted composite score and multiple photographic documentation of the surgical site.
