Immobilization of (3-D-glucosidase from almonds on photo-crosslinkable resin prepolymer (ENTP-4000) was carried out by the following procedure. One gram of ENTP-4000 was mixed with 10 mg of a photosensitizer, benzoin ethyl ether, and 110 mg of (3-D-glucosidase from almonds (3.4 units mg ). The mixture was layered on a sheet of transparent polyester film (thickness, ca. 0.5 mm). The layer was covered with transparent thin film and then illuminated with chemical lamps (wavelength range 300 00 nm) for 3 min. The gel film thus obtained was cut into small pieces (0.5 x 5 x 5 mm) and used for bioconversion reaction. [Pg.263]

It is interesting to note that the most critical spectral changes occur at the initial stages of photo-oxidation. On further exposure of the samples (as a thin film on KBr) to UV light, a certain stabilization of chemical changes in the structure of the oligomers studied takes place along with a decrease in the intensity of the major absorption bands. [Pg.133]

The various morphological variants available in bead form can be repHcated in thin films ( 2 cmx8cmx50-100 pm) produced simply by photo-initiated free radical polymerization of comonomer mixtures introduced by capillary action into an appropriate mold formed with microscope sHdes [48]. With appropriate choice of comonomers, and porogen in the case of macroporous films, reasonably mechanically robust self-supporting films can be removed from the mold for further exploitation (Fig. 1.9). [Pg.11]

Studies include wet-cell photoelectrochemical measurements (42,60,72,90), STM measurements on single MS particles in thin films (55,56,81), and conductivity measurements of metal chalcogenides in LB films (20,21,23). Many such studies are driven by the search for cheaper methods and materials for the fabrication of semiconductors suitable for photoelectrochemical devices. Moreover, the ability to tune optical properties via the Q-state effect and the versatility of LB fabrication make the LB films an attractive medium for semiconductor production. The photo-... [Pg.271]

A thorough study of the photo-Fries rearrangement of poly(p-acetamido styrene) was made difficult by the lack of solubility of the polymer in solvents other than DMSO or DMF. Nevertheless, photoexposure of thin films of V cast from DMF solution confirmed the lack of reactivity of the polymer as only minimal conversions could be achieved even after long periods of exposure. [Pg.277]

It is of interest primarily for very uniform ultra-thin films and coatings (0.002-5 mils) in applications such as electrical resistors, thermistors, thermocouples, stator cores, connectors, fast-sensing probes, photo cells, memory units, dropwise steam condensers for recovery of sea water, pellicles for beam splitters in optical instruments, windows for nuclear radiation counters, panels for micrometeorite detection, dielectric supports for planar capacitors, encapsulation of reactive powders, and supports in x-ray and optical work. Any significant growth would depend upon a major breakthrough in process techniques and a consequent lowering in price. [Pg.21]

In the first case, thin films (ca. 0.1 - 0.15 mm) were prepared by compression moulding in an electrically heated laboratory press. Photo-hydroperoxidation were performed by i) dipping the polymer film in a methanol solution of anthracene (ca. [Pg.12]

Thin polymer films have many possible technical applications. Transistors and light-emitting diodes are the obvious ones. In ultra-thin films, one may even approach an electronics of molecular dimension. Molecular electronics will be a future challenge for basic and applied science. Nature applies it on a large scale in the reaction centers of the photosynthetic process, where photoinduced mobile charges are separated in some analogy to the separation of the photo-(p-n)-pair in the junction zone of a semiconductor (see Section 13.3.1). [Pg.391]

The semiconductors n-TiC>2 and n-WO3 have been sensitized with thin films (100-250 A) of MPc (M = Mg, Zn, TiO, Co, Fe, C1A1, H2)81 and have been shown to effect the photo-oxidation of I-, [Fe(CN)6]4 , hydroquinone and [Fen(EDTA)]2. Photocurrents were proportional to the light... [Pg.24]
