Pharmacological responses

Iha pharmacological response elicited by monocyclic aromatic iigents is a function of the number and spatial arrangement of the functional groups attached to the aromatic ring this is true of a great many drugs. 

Xenobiotics can produce a variety of biologic effects, including pharmacologic responses, toxicity, immunologic reactions, and cancer. 

Symptoms of the infection can in some instanees be highly specific, relating to a single, precise pharmacological response to a partieular toxin or they might be nonspecific and relate to the usual response of the body to particular types of trauma. Damage induced by infeetion will therefore be eonsidered in these categories.

As is apparent from the literature reviewed above, that culture and ethnicity are powerful determinants of an individual s response to psychopharmacotherapy. Progress in this regard will vastly improve our current practice in using medications. However, it is necessary to remember that there are often very substantial inter-individual variations within any defined cultural or ethnic group, and that ethnic variations in pharmacological responses should not be interpreted stereotypically.

In addition to desiring therapeutic concentrations, one would like to obtain these concentrations rapidly. The more rapidly the drug is absorbed, in general, the sooner the pharmacological response is achieved. 

In general, one finds that the more rapid and complete the absorption, the more uniform and reproducible the pharmacological response becomes.

Mouse vas deferens (MVD) seems to express CB1 and at least one CB2-like cannabinoid receptor type, as is demonstrated by the presence of CB1 and CB2-like mRNA as well as by data collected from experiments with cannabinoid receptor selective agonists and antagonists (Pertwee, 1999). Furthermore, evidence indicates that a CBl-like receptor exists in vascular endothelium, which upon activation produces significant hypotension (Wagner, 1999). This receptor differs from CB1 in its pharmacological response to some well-characterized cannabimimetics. 

The benzene ring per se does not impart any particular pharmacological response to a drug. It is widely held that its planarity, its ability to bind to tissue receptors by Van der Waals and charge transfer mechanisms, and, particularly, its ability to serve as a conductor of electrons within a substance serve as modulators, enhancing or diminishing the intensity of response to a molecule that is otherwise inherently bioactive.
