Pharma codes

The Swiss Pharmaceutical Industry has a self-regulatory code of conduct the Pharma code. This code takes into account, in particular, the codes issued by the IFPMA and the EFPIA, as well as the recommendations of the Swiss Academy of Medical Sciences relating to collaboration between the medical profession and the industry. In addition, the provisions of the Federal Law against Unfair Competition of 1986 must be observed. [Pg.23]

Other approaches in the field include a new way to create a hostile environment for the hepatitis C vims (HCV) in the host liver cell instead of directly interfering with its cellular machinery [122]. This is achieved by using a locked nucleic acid (LNA) modified ON that targets miRNA-122, which is considered essential for HCV propagation in liver cells. Miravirsen (Santaris Pharma code SPC3649) is the first miRNA-targeting dmg to enter phase 2a studies in the USA [123]. [Pg.168]

The study of the genome supports the fundamental unity of human beings throughout the world. We all share at least 99.9% of the letters of code (nucleotide sequence) in our genome [1, 77]. And yet, it is remarkable that the extraordinary diversity of human beings at the genetic level is encoded by less than 0.1% variation in our DNA. In a sense, this is the variation that is the basis for pharma-cogenomics. In any physician s practice, patients are predisposed to different con-... [Pg.28]

Many individuals have identified additional characteristics and responsibilities of a professional. For instance, Abraham Flexner first idenhfied the attributes of a profession in 1915, on which Isidor Thorner elaborated in 1942 (Buerki and Vottero, 1996). One of the attributes identified by Flexner and Thorner is that the profession provides a relahvely specific funchon that its practitioners depend on for their livelihood and social status. Professionals perform the necessary functions for society that society cannot provide for itself. In return for this service, society grants professionals special privileges, such as internal control and autonomy in decision making within their realms of experhse. In accepting this responsibility, professionals generally rely on a code of ethics (see Appendix A for the Code of Ethics for Pharma-... [Pg.40]
