Figure 6.6 shows clearly that it is possible to apply Equation (6.21) at pH 4-7. In this pH range, we obtain a linear plot according to the equation used. At pHs lower than 4 and higher than 7, Equation (6.21) can no longer be applied. Each dye has a specific pH application domain. [Pg.85]

For low-pH applications (pH < 2.0), select columns resistant to acid hydrolysis of the bonded groups. [Pg.71]

For high-pH applications (pH > 8), select columns stable at high pH (Figure 3.11). [Pg.71]

Both carmine and cochineal extract are made from the dried female insect, Dactylopius coccus costa, commonly known as cochineal. The cochineal live on specific cacti and the main prodnction is in Pern, bnt cochineal are also produced in Chile, Bolivia and the Canary Islands. There are nsnally two harvests per year, where the cochineal are removed mannally with snitable tools from leaves of the cacti. Following harvest the insects are snn dried before further processing. The cochineal insects are extracted nsing an aqueous alkaline solution. The resnlting cochineal extract can either be formulated to different cochineal products in powder or liquid form or further processed to carmine. Cochineal products are water-soluble and orange in low pH applications. The colour intensity is relatively low. [Pg.335]

Acid stability of the colour is required in low pH applications like soft drinks and many confectionery products. Alkaline formulations of chlorophyll and annatto colours are the most sensitive, and acid-proof formulations should be preferred. However, increased acid stability may be achieved if the annatto pigment noibixin is able to bind to protein, e.g., fruit pulp in fruit based beverages. [Pg.340]

It does not appear that the production of active proteases limits the rMnP enzyme titer during pH 6 fermentations, but this possibility was not directly addressed and cannot be entirely eliminated. The production of rMnP in P. pastoris (xMnPl-1 at pH 6 may be sufficiently practical for most industrial applications, such as pulp bleaching [2, 4]. Although rMnP is not produced effectively by P. pastoris aMnPl-1 at pH 4.5, the concentrated preparations of rMnP expressed at pH 6 exhibit activity at pH 4.5 similar to the wtMnP. Presumably these preparations could be used, perhaps with further piuification to remove residual proteases, for low pH applications. [Pg.156]

We have recently adopted a novel chitosan-based ionic gelation process for the preparation of PMAA-based microparticles. " Methacrylic acid was polymerized in the presence of chitosan in aqueous medium, and particles were obtained spontaneously during the polymerization without the addition of any organic solvents and steric stabilizers. PMAA-CS particles displayed good protein encapsulation efficiency and demonstrated pH responsive release behavior at stimulated gastric and intestinal pH. Application of these microparticles toward oral protein delivery was evaluated using insulin and bovine serum albumin (BSA) as model proteins. [Pg.1374]

As already mentioned, most of the vessels concerned were in the chlorine production areas, but there are also some in the HCl recycling plant, the chlorinated polyethylene (Tyrin ) plant and also the glycerine and methylene diisocyanate plants. The most common application area was in acidic low pH media (37% of all the vessels) whereas 23% were in high pH caustic service, 27% were in neutral pH applications and the final 13% have been classified as mixed organic and inorganic streams. [Pg.297]

The choice of anion exchanger is process dependent and for high pH applications, i.e., pH>8.5 the more ionized grade, e.g., N,N,N-trimethyl-2-hydro-xypropyl amine, would be recommended. [Pg.2316]

Interaction of HPF with nanosilica is of special interest because of the medical applications of this material, especially as a component of tourniquet preparations. Therefore, here we will analyze adsorption interactions of fibrinogen with nanosilica depending on concentration of components, salinity, and pH. Application of several methods such as (i) adsorption of HPF from the aqueous solutions (ii) UV and FTIR spectroscopy of adsorbed layer with HPF and (iii) TSDC and H NMR spectroscopy with layer-by-layer freezing-out of bulk and bound water interacting with HPF and HPF/nanosilica allows us to deeply understand features of interaction of HPF with silica NP that is of importance for elucidation of the mechanism of interaction of nanosilica preparations with blood. [Pg.683]

It is not surprising to find that pectin is well suited for low-pH applications considering its source. Pectin functions ideally at pHs near 3.5. Below this pH, it suffers from hydrolysis of both the glycosidic linkage and the ester, and in highly alkaline solutions, hydrolysis of the ester is rapid. Changes in the number of ester groups over time cause unstable viscosities in cosmetic formulations. [Pg.349]

Some materials are specially made for low-pH applications (pH 1-2), while others are made for use up to pH 9-11. The polymeric materials provide better protection of the silica surface and will generally he better for use at high or low pH. However, even the polymeric silica-based materials should never he stored at... [Pg.71]

The applications of pH measurements are too numerous to discuss separately. The measurement of pH is used in producing the ink on this page, the color in a shirt, the shine on a car bumper, and is vital to each of us in our bodies. The most reasonable approach to a discussion on pH applications is to discuss a general approach and then illustrate it with examples of some common difficult samples. [Pg.109]

Chapter 1 - The Essentials provides a concise overview of what makes pH applications unique. It covers the total system requirements and Is designed for the widest possible audience. It uses an adventurous style and analogies that should help make this chapter interesting enough to read from start to finish. The other chapters follow up on the seeds planted here and are intended to be used more as a reference for the design of each part of a pH measurement and control system. [Pg.4]

More than any other field, successful pH applications require good communication between the chemist, specialist, and pl[Pg.39]
