Some calibration gas generators dose the measuring components by permeation [7, 8]. At the permeation sources the component to be proportioned is supplied in the form of a two-phase mixture (liquid/gaseous) in a small tube, and therefore these apparatuses need only one gas cylinder for the carrier gas. [Pg.154]

Permeation sources consist of tubes made of a polymer such as polytetrafluorethylene (PTFE). This tube is hermetically sealed at both ends and is HUed with the component to be proportioned. In other designs the tube is gas-tight and the stopper is permeable. [Pg.154]

Of all of the proportioning methods described here, the lowest dosage rates can be achieved with the permeation technique. In many permeation elements, the rates are in the range of less than a few 10 SCCM. Because permeation sources can only contain small quantities of the component to be added, such a calibration gas generator is especially suited for the preparation of gas mixtures in which the constituents are in the range of ppm, ppb or sub-ppb. [Pg.155]

Whey has been used ia some substitute dairy products but aot as a source of proteia. Whey proteias have beea used ia dairy substitutes only siace the commercialisation of ultrafiltration (qv) technology. Membranes are used that retain proteia and permit water, lactose, and some minerals to pass through as permeate. Proteia coaceatrates are available from both acid and sweet whey and ia coaceatratioas of 35—80 wt % proteia. Whey proteia isolates are commercially available having proteia >90 wt%. The cost of these isolates is too high, however, to make them economical for substitute dairy foods. [Pg.441]

The vapor vent valves are connected to the tank vapor control valve, and ultimately to the carbon canister by tubing that is resistant to swelling in the presence of fuel vapors. The tubing material must also have a low HC permeation rate, so that the evaporative emissions are not increased due to release of HC molecules. The tank vapor control valve connects the carbon canister to two fuel tank vapor sources the vapor vent valve lines and a refueling vent tube. [Pg.245]

NOTE Generally speaking, the higher the TDS of the RW source to the RO, the higher the applied pressure required to produce a constant permeate water TDS. Also, for practical reasons, the rate of permeate recovery tends to decrease with increase in source water TDS. [Pg.364]

Brackish water. Usually associated with salty water, brackish water TDS levels range from 2,000 to 20,000 ppm or more. Most industrial sources of RW supply may be well water, surface waters, or the like, but do not specifically have to contain high levels of sodium chloride. The RO applied pressure required is from 250 to 600 psig, and the permeate recovery rates are typically 60% down to perhaps 40%. There is a tremendous variety in so-called brackish water sources, and correct membrane selection and other design criteria are critical to manufacturing an efficient RO plant. [Pg.365]

In a manner comparable to Christian eschatology, alchemical literature insisted on its own purificatory rituals that involved the preliminary torture, death and dismemberment of the prima materia. The canonical Catholic depiction of Christ s sacrificed body was a primary source for sixteenth and seventeenth century illustrations of the tortured body in anatomical and alchemical publications. In eflfect, the practice of Paracelsian alchemical medicine and surgery had a sacramental connotation, since the physician acted on the human body in the same manner as God worked on the great universal Macrocosmic Body. In like manner, the Paracelsian physician introduced the universal panacea, a liquid form of the philosopher s stone, into the alchemical alembic that was the Microcosmic human body. This alchemical medicine was permeated with the starry virtues of the heavens and the grace of Christ s Spirit, redeeming the body and soul of the patient by granting him not only an extended life on earth, but even eternal salvation. [Pg.11]

Gel Permeation Chromatography (CPC) is often the source of molecular wei t averages used in polymerization kinetic modelling Q.,2). Kinetic models also r uire measurement of molecular weight distribution, conversion to polymer, composition of monomers in a copolymerization rea tion mixture, copolymer composition distribution, and sequence length distribution. The GPC chromatogram often reflects these properties (3,. ... [Pg.149]

For example, let us consider a typical crystal anapole moment of MrnNiN [4], Its anapole moment can be adjusted by temperature. The p source 3H may be permeated into this lattice without destroying the crystal structure. When the temperature is higher than 266K, the atomic magnetic moments of Mn do not array in anapole structure. Then the crystal anapole moment is zero. The p emission probability of 3H is normal. Contributions from other electro-weak processes may be measured at this temperature. When the temperature is lower than 184 K, the atomic magnetic moments of Mn array in the anapole structure and the crystal present anapole moment to the 3H nuclei. Then the electron s emission rate of 3H will be increased. [Pg.312]

According to Rose (1998, p. 10), this traditional wedding-cake hierarchy of levels is one source of the bias toward reductionism that permeates our understanding of science. It may well permeate our society and thus seem natural, but if this model is looked at somewhat more closely, it begins... [Pg.162]
