PerkinElmer imaging

Two principal imagers used in HTS laboratories are the ViewLux (PerkinElmer Life Sciences, Wellesley, MA, U.S.A.) and the Leadseeker (GE Healthcare/Amersham Biosciences, Chalfont St. Giles, Bucks, U.K.). The performance in any particular mode of these multimodal readers can vary from one instrument to another, so most HTS laboratories have at least two different readers available for assay development and HTS. 

Seal the plate with black adhesive film and acquire images using a high-content platform, such as the IN Cell Analyser (GE Healthcare) or Opera. (PerkinElmer) or an inverted fluorescence microscope.

Other uses of an IR microscope in forensic analysis include the examination of fibers, drugs, and traces of explosives. For example, oxidation of hair can occur chemically or by sunlight oxidation of cystine to cysteic acid can be seen in hair fibers by FTIR microscopy (Robotham and Izzia). Excellent examples in full color of FTIR imaging microscopy can be found on the websites of companies like PerkinElmer and Thermo Fisher Scientific. Our limitations in use of gray scale make many of the examples unsuited for reproduction in the text. A novel IR microscope combined with atomic force microscopy, the nanoIR platform from Anasys Instruments (www.anasysinstruments.com), permits nanoscale IR spectroscopy, AFM topography, nanoscale thermal analysis, and mechanical testing. 

The benchtop Cyclone Plus quantitative radiometric phosphor imager (PerkinElmer Life and Analytical Sciences) operates with the same storage phosphor and scanning process except that a helical scanning mechanism is used with the flexible phosphor screen loaded into a cylindrical carousel that spins at 360 rpm. This allows the instrument to be more compact and lower in cost than the BAS-5000, in which the phosphor screen is kept on a flat plane during scanning.
